"That's right, the yin-cold constitution!" Elder Zhang nodded and said, "It was precisely because of this that Ancestor Xue chose to yield. But that man was a remarkable figure as well. He took Ancestor Bing to the Snow-Ice Spirit Mountain, where the Ice Palace was located, and found the Fire Spirit Sacred Fruit, successfully prolonging Ancestor Bing's life. And on the Snow-Ice Spirit Mountain, Ancestor Bing unexpectedly obtained the mountain's legacy and discovered the ancient ruins of the Ice Palace, and thereupon founded her own sect! But her body grew very poor after she took the Fire Spirit Sacred Fruit, for she truly should never have taken it. The Fire Spirit Sacred Fruit is effective only when taken during a qi deviation. Taken in ordinary times, it brings no benefit at all, but rather great harm. So even though Ancestor Bing became a formidable expert at the peak of the late Heaven Rank, her health was never good. And that man, being a famed alchemist and Medical Sage, could only keep refining Ice Heart Jade Bone Pills for her to take, so that her body would not collapse into illness."
"Then since Ancestor Bing didn't die, did Ancestor Xue never go back to look for them?" Shen Yushu asked, rather curious.
"Having already said she would give him up, how could Ancestor Xue, proud as she was, ever bow her head? And though Ancestor Bing did not die, her health was wretched. That man had to stay by Ancestor Bing's side to care for her..." Elder Zhang said. "And Ancestor Xue, wishing to forget them, naturally created the Art of Heartlessness. This is also why the Ice Palace and Snow Valley, though they spring from the same source, support one another and suppress one another in equal measure..."
"How marvelous..." Gu Mengyao could not help but exclaim after hearing Elder Zhang's words. The look she turned on Tang Zhi grew somewhat strange.
"Yaoyao, why are you looking at me like that?" Tang Zhi asked, rather puzzled.
"Yunyun, haven't you noticed? What happened all those years ago is happening all over again..." Gu Mengyao said. "You stayed in Snow Valley, Xiaoxiao stayed in the Ice Palace, and Wei Zhao... he is that Medical Sage..."
"Ah!" Tang Zhi was startled, but with Gu Mengyao's reminder, she too realized how astonishingly similar the events of those years were to what was happening now. The same constitution, the same story, and even the abilities of the man they both loved were similar! Both were men of supreme medical skill...
The only difference was that Tang Zhi and Xiaoxiao had temperaments unlike those of Ancestor Xue and Ancestor Bing in those days. The two of them could accept each other and blend into one another's lives, whereas Ancestor Xue and Ancestor Bing could only come to a tragic end.
"Happening all over again?" Elder Zhang, for his part, was bewildered by Gu Mengyao's words and had no idea what she was talking about.
"Feng Xiaoxiao, the heir of the Ice Palace, and Yunyun are his senior and junior wives..." Gu Mengyao pointed at Wei Zhao and said to Elder Zhang.
"Ah?" Elder Zhang was instantly startled by Gu Mengyao's words. He stared at Tang Zhi in disbelief, and only after a long while did he recover enough to say, "You mean to say that the heir of the Ice Palace..."
"Yes. Sister Xiaoxiao and I are both... both his girlfriends..." Tang Zhi was somewhat embarrassed, but she still nodded and admitted it.
Though Elder Zhang had long since guessed as much, hearing Tang Zhi's confirmation still left him sighing with deep feeling and immense shock. He heaved a sigh and said, "The will of heaven. It is all the will of heaven... Heaven's will works in mysterious ways..."
