"Ah—" Granny Sun's face flushed at once. She had never expected that to be what Wei Zhao meant. "I... at my age, I haven't thought about such things in years. I've grown used to being alone all this while. Besides, I'm the housekeeper here now, and an ordinary person would be hard to find—after all, Mr. Lin, you have certain secrets that can't be told to outsiders..."
Granny Sun was referring to the fact that Wei Zhao was a cultivator and was being hunted by the Yu family and others. Naturally, such things could not be told to ordinary people, so when she heard Wei Zhao's suggestion, she turned him down outright.
"This person isn't an outsider either. In a way... he's something like our housekeeper in Songshan City..." Wei Zhao said with a smile. "He's one of us!"
"Ah! Wei Zhao, you mean Uncle Qing!" Only then did Gu Mengyao understand what Wei Zhao was getting at, and her eyes lit up. She looked at Granny Sun, then thought of Uncle Qing... Indeed, Uncle Qing had always been single—and he and Granny Sun really would make a fine couple...
"Yes, yes! Granny Sun, you and Uncle Qing are both single—you'd make a perfect pair!" Shen Yushu, delighted, chimed in her agreement.
"This..." Hearing that the man was the housekeeper from Songshan City, and single as well, Granny Sun lost some of her earlier resistance. But she had long since stopped thinking about such things, and now, being asked out of the blue to find a man, she felt somewhat out of her depth. "Mr. Lin, I know you mean well, but... I can't even remember whether I ever had a husband or children, or what became of them... and I've stopped considering such questions..."
"Haha, then just meet him first. Let everything follow fate—at least you'll get to know each other," Wei Zhao said with a smile.
"Then... I'll do as you say, Mr. Lin." Granny Sun said this, but she held little hope. She had grown used to being alone all these years and had adapted to it; she simply did not want to waste Wei Zhao's goodwill, and so she agreed.
On the morning of the eleventh, Wei Zhao drove Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu to the Economics Department building, then parked the car back in the lot. Seeing that it was about time, he skipped the dormitory and went straight to the Biology Department building.
Sure enough, Bai Weituo, Song Xiaodao, and Zhao Shengji were all already seated in the classroom, still in the third row as before. Wang Xinyan was likewise in her old seat by the window, and the seat beside her was still empty.
"Brother Lin, over here!" Bai Weituo grinned, waved at Wei Zhao, and pointed to the seat beside Wang Xinyan.
Wang Xinyan's face grew a little warm. She did not know why she had taken this seat again, or why she had again left the seat beside her for Wei Zhao. As far as she was concerned, Wei Zhao probably would not come to sit here again—yet she had left it open all the same. Otherwise she could simply have sat on the right and left two empty seats on her left, and then Wei Zhao would have had no way to sit beside her.
Wei Zhao smiled faintly and sat down quite naturally beside Wang Xinyan. Toward Wang Xinyan, Wei Zhao felt a fondness he could not put into words—perhaps because she was the first girl he had come to know after arriving in Songshan City!
