Chapter 1935 — I Forgot

But Wei Zhao did not doubt for a moment that the man was lying. For one thing, in a situation like this he had no way to lie; and for another, his earlier words to Outedi made it plain enough — the Yu family had been wiped out, Red Conch's drug trade had suffered for it, and even their say in the Golden Triangle had shrunk.
"Tell me the address of the Fire Wolf Gang's branch!" Wei Zhao said.
"I don't know the branch's address. I'm only in charge of the drug trade here on the East Sea side. Every time I go to make contact, I go to the Conch Bar in Qingrun City — that's one of Red Conch's small footholds," Bald Wolf said.
"The Conch Bar?" Wei Zhao was a little surprised. These Red Conch people were bold enough — setting up a bar and naming it the Conch Bar outright. Weren't they afraid of exposure? But then he thought it over: most likely no one would ever connect a place called the Conch Bar with Red Conch.
As the saying goes, the most dangerous place is the safest place. That was probably the reasoning here.
"Who else handles the drug business?" Wei Zhao pressed on.
"It used to be Brother De. All of us here used to work under the Third Master, and it was the Third Master who dealt with the Yu family as well. Now the Third Master runs everything, but he's still the one in charge of it," Bald Wolf said.
Wei Zhao's heart stirred. So it seemed that Pangolin's death came back to this Third Master. He was the true mastermind behind the dealings with the Yu family. No wonder nothing had come back about the second-in-command they had captured earlier — it turned out the drug trade had never been his responsibility.
Wei Zhao did the same with Outedi, but Outedi was a minor boss of a foreign gang, and Wei Zhao could get even less out of him. He had not the slightest interest in going after that gang, so he simply let Outedi go back to sleep.
That done, Wei Zhao walked over to Wang Xinyan. The two men had been needled by Wei Zhao; they would not wake for at least two hours.
Hearing footsteps, Wang Xinyan's heart tightened. She had been so nervous she had even forgotten to pull up her pants, and just squatted there foolishly. She was afraid something had happened to Wei Zhao, but he and the two men had spoken too quietly for her to hear, and she dared not stand up.
"Wei Zhao... is that you..." As the footsteps drew nearer, Wang Xinyan forced down her fear and called out.
"Yes, Xinyan, it's me." Wei Zhao said, quickly walking up to her — but the sight that met his eyes left him dumbstruck: "Uh..."
"What is it?" Wang Xinyan stood up. Seeing Wei Zhao's expression, she was taken aback; then a night breeze blew past, a chill struck her lower body, and she realized she had forgotten to pull up her pants. Mortified, she hurriedly bent down and yanked them up: "I... I forgot..."
"Heh, I know. I won't take it that you were deliberately trying to seduce me." Wei Zhao joked.
"You're awful..." Wang Xinyan's face flushed slightly. She knew he was only teasing, and quickly changed the subject: "By the way, Wei Zhao, those men over there..."
"I've knocked them out. But I'm afraid we'll have to head back tonight," Wei Zhao said.
"Oh..." Wang Xinyan nodded. "All right, I've rested about enough, and my strength is back..."
"Let me contact Instructor Chen first. Maybe we won't have to walk back — someone can come pick us up," Wei Zhao said with a smile.
"Oh, and your pants..." Wang Xinyan saw that a patch of Wei Zhao's trousers was soaked, and felt terribly guilty. Earlier she had thrown up all over his pants, and now she had wet them too. He must think she was nothing but trouble.
"Oh, it's fine. There's no smell to it. It'll dry." Wei Zhao did not hold it against her.
Wang Xinyan was deeply embarrassed and did not dare say anything more.
Wei Zhao brought Wang Xinyan quickly back to the tent, took the GPS out of his pack, and flipped the red switch on its back. The GPS immediately began to beep...
