So it was not long before Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Han Jingyi came walking over in this direction.
Once they had all got into the car, Wei Zhao started the engine and drove straight for the Xueshang Residential Compound.
The group already understood one another without words, so there was no need for much talk.
Back home, Granny Sun was just cooking dinner. Wei Zhao said to Gu Mengyao, "Yaoyao, I'm going over to Han Jingyi's for a bit—there's something I need to see her about. When dinner's ready, you all go ahead and eat; don't wait for me."
"You're going over to Han Jingyi's?" Gu Mengyao was slightly taken aback. Wei Zhao had never seemed to care much for Han Jingyi—last night he had only dropped off a little food for them and come straight back, without even stopping to chat. So why was he volunteering to go over today?
"Yeah. Han Jingyi wants to learn alchemy, so she and I are going to look into it together." Wei Zhao paused there and smiled wryly. "You all know about the two-year pact between me and Bingtang, but my alchemy hasn't made the slightest progress. Han Jingyi likes alchemy—if she really can do it, that would be a good thing!"
"So that's it!" The young lady understood at once why Wei Zhao would go to Han Jingyi of his own accord. Han Jingyi was a scatterbrained sort, and ordinarily Wei Zhao did not much care for her; without a reason, he truly would not have gone to call on her.
Since it concerned Feng Xiaoxiao, the young lady naturally would not stand in his way. She nodded and said, "Go on, then. Don't worry about us. If it gets too late, Xiaoshu and I will just go to bed first..."
"All right!" Wei Zhao nodded, took up the silver needles, and left the villa. Turning to the neighboring villa where Han Jingyi lived, he pressed the doorbell.
He had not even held the bell for a second when the villa's front door swung open. Han Jingyi was standing there in the doorway as though she had been waiting for him, which gave Wei Zhao quite a start.
"You... how did you open the door so fast?" Wei Zhao was rather puzzled by Han Jingyi's speed.
"I've been waiting for you at the door the whole time!" Han Jingyi said. "The moment you rang the bell, I opened the door..."
"...You've been standing here waiting ever since you got home?" The corner of Wei Zhao's mouth twitched twice. He felt that Han Jingyi's behavior simply could not be measured by ordinary reason.
"That's right!" Han Jingyi nodded. "I was afraid that if I got busy later I wouldn't hear the doorbell, and you'd be stuck waiting outside like a fool! Waiting for someone is no fun—Jingjing had a hard time of it yesterday, so I didn't want Brother Wei Zhao to have to wait either!"
"Uh... well, thank you! Jingjing, you're such a good girl!" Wei Zhao sighed. He had to admit that, strange as Han Jingyi's way of thinking was, at this moment he was genuinely touched—and all the more sorry for having left her in the parking lot yesterday.
"Mm-hm, Jingjing is the best!" Han Jingyi nodded, thoroughly convinced. "Because Brother Wei Zhao is good to Jingjing, Jingjing is good to Brother Wei Zhao too!"
"Yesterday..." Wei Zhao's guilt only deepened.
"Yesterday Jingjing knew Brother Wei Zhao didn't mean it, so Jingjing doesn't mind!" Han Jingyi said.
"All right, let's get your cold cured first!" Wei Zhao said. "Then I have something important to tell you. Where's Han Xiaochao?"
"He's upstairs reading. Do you need him for something?" Han Jingyi asked.
"No." Wei Zhao shook his head. "Hasn't he caught a cold?"
"No, he seems fine," Han Jingyi said.
"Good." Wei Zhao said, "Sit down on the sofa, and I'll give you the acupuncture..."
"Acupuncture can cure a cold?" Han Jingyi was a little doubtful. "No medicine needed?"
"No need. Acupuncture will do it," Wei Zhao said. "Others might not be able to, but I can."
