Chapter 2530 — I'm Doing This for Your Own Good

"See, didn't I say so? We just sit back and watch. For now someone else is going to take care of Wei Zhao for us—no need to lift a finger." You Panhu spoke smugly. "Let's go watch too, at noon!"
"Of course we have to go watch!" Kang Jinglong agreed.
By the time they finished eating it was just about twelve, and a large crowd of students had gathered near the gymnastics platform on the little training ground—the student council had even sent some of its members to keep order.
The school did not forbid sparring between students; it counted as one of the extracurricular activities. Two parties putting on a show on stage—so long as things did not go too far, the school would not interfere. After all, the martial arts club, the boxing club, the taekwondo club and the rest held matches and sparring sessions all the time.
Zhong Yongliang had taken his place on the platform early, while Gao Xiaofu busied himself hanging the banner. Today's banner read "Operation Close Guard"—silly as it looked, on a university campus that was the very byword for romance!
Some people strummed guitars and arranged flower formations beneath the girls' dormitory—wasn't that silly too? But it was romantic. Most such confessions failed, true, yet undeniably some succeeded, moving the goddess of their hearts.
Of course, Zhong Yongliang had done this deliberately, precisely to distinguish today from yesterday—otherwise someone might bring up yesterday's business and accuse him of playing foul, and he would have no good way to explain himself.
"Damn it, it's already twenty past twelve—why isn't Wei Zhao here yet?" Zhong Yongliang checked his watch and muttered, "I bought a watch last year..."
At first, Zhong Yongliang had stood on the platform with his hands clasped behind his back—imposing and dashing indeed. But that depended on Wei Zhao showing up soon. Now Zhong Yongliang had stood up there for over twenty minutes; even if he himself was not tired, the students below were suffering visual fatigue, thinking he looked like an idiot standing there striking poses for his own benefit.
"Brother Liang, wasn't the agreed time half past twelve? There's still ten minutes..." Gao Xiaofu said hastily.
"Hell, if I'd known, I wouldn't have come so early!" Zhong Yongliang was rather glum. He dragged over a chair and plopped himself down, no longer bothering to strike a pose, and waited for Wei Zhao.
But the moment his backside touched the chair, he spotted a figure leaping into view before him! Wei Zhao had arrived—and was now standing on the platform, looking down at Zhong Yongliang seated in the chair.
"Little Liangzi, comfortable, aren't you? Taking a rest before the fight?" Wei Zhao had clearly waited to come up until Zhong Yongliang sat down, no doubt intending to give him a hard time.
"What the hell!" The sight of Wei Zhao nearly made Zhong Yongliang explode with rage. This bastard—he hadn't come while Zhong Yongliang was striking poses, but the moment he sat down, there he was. What was that supposed to mean? Screwing with him for fun?
But then Zhong Yongliang saw that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had come too and were watching from below the platform, and he was unwilling to lose face by bickering over such pointless matters with Wei Zhao. So he merely rose to his feet and said, "As the host, it's only natural I arrive a bit early. Nothing remarkable about it."
"Heh—then let's begin. How do we compete? You tell me. My time is limited—once I'm done with you, I still have to go back and rest." Wei Zhao smiled, but somehow Zhong Yongliang found that smile utterly begging for a punch.
"The rules are simple. From now until one o'clock, when class starts, we have half an hour. Within half an hour, we fight—whoever beats the other until... mm, until he coughs up blood and can't get up, that counts as victory!" Zhong Yongliang deliberately narrowed the conditions. "It has to be coughing blood, mind you!"
