Chapter 2711 — Zhang Lifeng Is Not Dead?

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"What!" White Leader was badly startled by Wei Zhao's words. He stared at Wei Zhao in horror, his face a picture of disbelief. "Not dead? After all these years, how could he not be dead? Even a peak late-stage Heaven-rank expert should be dead by now, shouldn't he?"

In theory, a peak late-stage Heaven-rank expert could prolong his lifespan indefinitely—but that was only theory. Constrained by the abundance of rare treasures and the richness of the world's spiritual energy, reaching two or three hundred years was already remarkable, and living to four or five hundred was rarer than phoenix feathers or unicorn horns!

An ordinary lone cultivator with no resources could typically live only a little over a hundred years.

"What if... he's a Heaven Dao expert?" In the past, Wei Zhao himself had not quite believed that Heaven Dao experts existed; he had thought it merely a legend. But after hearing the Great Fire Lion's words and truly seeing that ghostly thing, Wei Zhao understood: Heaven Dao experts must once have truly existed.

"Hiss—" White Leader drew in a sharp breath. "You're saying Zhang Lifeng, our founding patriarch, never died, and this ancient tomb is a fake—a decoy?"

"Whether it's a decoy, I can't say, and I don't know the specific reason. This is just a conclusion I've reasoned my way to," Wei Zhao said.

White Leader nodded slowly. Wei Zhao's speculation did, in truth, carry a great deal of possibility. But then another odd thought struck him, and he asked, "But if the person in this ancient tomb is Patriarch Zhang Lifeng himself, then why did he seize Yu Xiaoke and frighten us?"

"I don't know. Perhaps Yu Xiaoke wasn't taken by him at all." Wei Zhao shook his head. "Patriarch Zhang Lifeng may have left this place long ago. Otherwise, our first tomb raid wouldn't have gone so smoothly, and besides, the Thunder Pig has lived here on its own all these years... Eh?"

Wei Zhao suddenly thought of the Thunder Pig, and at once gave the little creature a kick. "Hey, little thing—was Zhang Lifeng dead or not?"

"Squeak, squeak..." The Thunder Pig gave two aggrieved whimpers, then pointed at the ground with its claw, signaling that the stone floor was too hard for it to write.

Wei Zhao was just about to tell it not to bother writing—it could simply trace the characters in the air above the ground—when suddenly the stone coffin before their eyes vanished without a trace!

The stone coffin... had simply vanished into thin air! Right before the eyes of Wei Zhao and White Leader, it was gone! The place where the coffin had stood was now flat ground!

"My God!" If Wei Zhao had been any less bold, another man in his place would likely have wet himself on the spot. The coffin was gone? And it had vanished without a sound, without warning, for no reason at all?

Though Wei Zhao's gaze had been fixed on the Thunder Pig just then, he could still see the coffin out of the corner of his eye. No one had come to move it. The coffin had sunk into the earth and disappeared in an instant, like the ginseng fruit in Journey to the West that dropped to the ground and simply vanished!

White Leader, at his age and a former sect master of the Five Luminaries Sect, now felt that he could scarcely breathe. Had Wei Zhao not cured him of his old ailment, he would likely have suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.

"Little Yi... this place is far too strange..." White Leader said, drawing a deep breath.

"But I can't leave until I've found Yu Xiaoke. How about this, Teacher Bai—let the Thunder Pig take you out of here first?" Wei Zhao suggested after a moment's thought. After all, White Leader had only come along to accompany him and had no particular ties to Yu Xiaoke; there was no need for him to wait here, so Wei Zhao urged him to go.

"How could I?" White Leader shook his head. "I'm your teacher. How could I abandon you at a time like this? It's all right—I'll stay here!"
