Chapter 2844 — No Chance Given

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

Realizing it was the ghostly thing that had woken him, pulling him back from the nightmare into reality, a flicker of gratitude crossed Wei Zhao's eyes. At first he had been thoroughly annoyed by the creature's behavior—cuckooing its way into his nest without so much as a word—but since he had no way to deal with it, could not wake it, and could not drive it off, Wei Zhao had simply let it be, though resentment still simmered in his heart.

But now Wei Zhao realized what a wise thing it had been to let this ghostly thing take up residence in the jade pendant's space. Without it, he would probably soon have become prey for that eight-legged lizard spirit beast!

"Much thanks!" Wei Zhao clasped his hands toward the ghostly thing. "A great favor needs no words of thanks—just stay here and keep cultivating!"

"Haha, boy, that's more like it. But since I'm lodging in your place, it wouldn't be right not to do you a good turn or two. No need to thank me—we're simply using each other!" said the ghostly thing.

"This old one? Are you a man or a ghost?" Wei Zhao was taken aback.

"That's none of your concern. With your current strength, it makes no difference whether you know or not—you'd best look to the matter at hand!" the ghostly thing reminded him, then shook its head. "Ah, now that I'm awake, it's not so easy to fall back asleep... what a nuisance!"

Wei Zhao was somewhat speechless, but the ghostly thing was right—he did have business to attend to. Slow as that eight-legged lizard spirit beast was, it was nearly upon him!

Earlier, out in the Five Fiends Wildlands, Wei Zhao had watched the exchange between the Thunder Pig and the eight-legged lizard spirit beast with perfect clarity. He was filled with gratitude for the Thunder Pig's stepping forward. Though he did not know what it had said to the eight-legged lizard spirit beast, the talks had clearly failed, and the Thunder Pig had been struck down by the beast. It had not died, and Wei Zhao's affection for it deepened considerably.

Wei Zhao returned to reality, rushed over at once, scooped up the Thunder Pig, and ran back toward the safe zone...

Seeing Wei Zhao suddenly snap awake and carry the Thunder Pig off at a run, everyone present was stunned—yet astonished and delighted at once. Zhang Naipao's eyes, however, were full of bewilderment. He could not understand how Wei Zhao had come to his senses. By all reason, this should have been impossible!

True, those of unyielding will could awaken themselves, but such people were all Heaven Rank experts—Earth Rank was out of the question. And Heaven Rank cultivators were exceedingly rare. How could Wei Zhao, a late-stage Earth Rank, awaken on his own?

"Little Pig, thank you!" Wei Zhao said gratefully to the Thunder Pig.

The Thunder Pig was rather surprised too. It had not expected Wei Zhao to return from the madman's illusion so quickly—at least its long delay had not been in vain. It squealed excitedly, "Oink oink..."

"Thunder Pig, I'll have to treat your wounds in a moment—there's still a **trouble to settle first!" Though Wei Zhao was racing toward the safe zone, the matter of Zhang Naipao remained unresolved and was a lurking danger. He had the ghostly thing in his jade pendant space, which could wake him, but if Feng Shihua or Li Ciba, Ge Xian, Zhao Qilei, or any of the others fell under the spell, that would be a real problem!

"Oink oink!" The Thunder Pig nodded in understanding. It would not die anytime soon, so there was no rush to heal its wounds.

When the eight-legged lizard spirit beast saw Wei Zhao suddenly scoop up the Thunder Pig and run off toward the safe zone, it hesitated a moment and did not give chase. Its pace was slow to begin with—if it pursued Wei Zhao and managed to catch him, well and good, but more likely it would arrive only to find Wei Zhao already tucked inside the safe zone.
