"Yu Yi, go pour the tea!" Yu Tianxing gave the order, then settled himself opposite Wei Zhao and began slowly, "Young Master Lin, the reason I asked you here this time—it is in fact to secure your support..."
"My support? What do you mean by that?" Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback, unable to grasp what Yu Tianxing was driving at.
"Earlier, when I refused to allow matters between you and Yu Ning, it was not out of any lingering resentment over the friction between us. I did it because I had no choice..." Here Yu Tianxing sighed softly. "To be frank with you, Yu Ning is a water-element inheritor..."
"What?!" Wei Zhao's eyes went wide, and he shot to his feet from the sofa! He had expected that Yu Tianxing's summons this time had something to do with inheritors, but he had assumed it concerned Shen Yushu—not Yu Ning! Yu Ning was an inheritor too? And a water-element inheritor at that?
"Young Master Lin, I did not mean to conceal it. The truth is, the backers of the hidden Yu family forbade me to speak of it..." Yu Tianxing had no choices left now. He could not afford to offend the Five Luminaries Sect, but Wei Zhao he dared offend even less!
Previously, Yu Tianxing had still cherished the hope that the Five Luminaries Sect would step forward on his behalf and settle the business with Wei Zhao. But now the Five Luminaries Sect had fallen silent—no one dared move against Wei Zhao. What was Yu Tianxing to do?
To live wedged in a crack is the hardest thing of all. He could only choose compromise, offending neither side, and hope for Wei Zhao's understanding.
"It is the Five Luminaries Sect—Ancestor Xuanchen." Yu Tianxing readily named his backer. "The reason the hidden Yu family can summon wind and rain across the hidden plane, can serve as the leader of the hidden clans and press down the alchemist clan, the hidden You family, is precisely that the Five Luminaries Sect stands behind us. Without the Five Luminaries Sect's support, our hidden Yu family could never possess the strength we have today!"
"The Five Luminaries Sect?" Wei Zhao was somewhat surprised. No wonder the hidden You family, for all the Xuan Dan Sect's backing, had never been able to overcome the hidden Yu family—so the hidden Yu family's backer was the more formidable one! "But I had heard that it was because the hidden Yu family—that is, Old Master Yu and your father—discovered an ancient relic site in those years and obtained some ancient inheritance, and that this is how the family came to be what it is?"
"That was all my fabrication! Ancient relic site—when were such things ever so easy to find?" Yu Tianxing gave a bitter laugh. "So many ancient clans have never found an ancient relic site to settle upon—and we could? It was nothing but a smokescreen to deceive the eye."
"So it was because of the Five Luminaries Sect—and because Yu Ning is an inheritor—that you refused to let me be with her?" Wei Zhao grasped the point at once. He was already an enemy of the Five Luminaries Sect.
"Precisely. Young Master Lin is perceptive." Yu Tianxing nodded. "You must know that an inheritor must remain a virgin. Fearing some mishap, I could not possibly permit you and Xiao Ning to be together. But the Five Luminaries Sect would not let me announce to the world that Yu Ning is an inheritor, so last time I had no choice but to refuse you. I hope you will not take offense..."
"That much I did know, and I understand your predicament." Wei Zhao nodded slightly, which might be taken as forgiving Yu Tianxing's concealment last time—after all, in such a matter, Bingtang had once set great store by it as well. "Then why are you telling me the truth now?"
