Chapter 3439 — Kang Jingming Comes Calling

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"Oh, right—why don't you take me to meet the people of the Paoli clan?" Kang Jingming said suddenly.

"The Paoli clan? What do you want with them?" Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback, unable to make sense of what Kang Jingming was getting at.

"Oh, it's like this. Xiao Yi's corpse has gone missing, and I'd like to get it back. I figure only the Paoli clan would know anything about it, so I want to ask them. Didn't they come here a while back?" Kang Jingming asked.

"Come here?" Wei Zhao frowned and asked, betraying nothing.

"That's right. I heard people say they came to the Song family to help drive off some outside experts..." Kang Jingming said.

"Oh..." Wei Zhao's mind raced, trying to figure out what Kang Jingming meant by this! How did Kang Jingming know that someone had come to the Song family looking for trouble—and that they were outside experts? And what did he mean by inquiring after the Paoli clan?

Could it be... that he had some connection to those outside experts? Or did he think that Wei Zhao had summoned the Paoli clan, and that was how those outside experts had been slain? On reflection, that was the only possibility!

"Oh? So did you see them?" Kang Jingming asked urgently, uncertain what Wei Zhao's "oh" was supposed to mean.

"What business is it of yours?" Wei Zhao countered.

"Didn't I just say? I want to find Xiao Yi's corpse—I suspect they've hidden it away!" Kang Jingming said with a bitter look. "After all, I was the one who lost the body, so Father-in-law Xuanchen put this matter in my hands."

"Is a corpse really that important?" Wei Zhao found it rather strange.

"It's not important, exactly, but we have to get to the bottom of where that corpse went," Kang Jingming said. "Great Sage Wei Zhao, your master is Ancestor Xuantian, so I won't hide it from you—you know about the soul jade tokens that disciples of the Five Luminaries Sect carry, don't you?"

"I've heard of them, but I don't know much," Wei Zhao said.

"It's like this: if a disciple of the Five Luminaries Sect perishes out in the world, their soul jade token shatters accordingly. But Xiao Yi's token only cracked—it didn't shatter—and his corpse is gone. We can't be certain whether he's alive or dead, so I have to find out the truth!" Kang Jingming explained.

Wei Zhao's heart gave a jolt. So Ancestor Xuanchen's side had already sensed something was wrong? Xiao Yi had been remade into a puppet avatar—call it dead, and he was dead; call it not dead, and he was not dead. No wonder the soul jade token had only cracked and not shattered!

"Then you should go to the Haku Namata Desert. They went back long ago," Wei Zhao said. "We may be on friendly terms, but they can't spend all year keeping me company, can they? They have their own affairs to attend to."

"Is that so!" Disappointment flickered across Kang Jingming's face, though inwardly he was overjoyed. "Then never mind—the journey there is too far. I can't afford another trip like that. By the way, are you staying with the secular Song family?"

"Yes. Any problem with that?" Wei Zhao nodded.

"Nothing, nothing. Is anyone else there? Could I stay too?" Kang Jingming asked.

"Qiu Lingshan's younger sister, Ling Rui, is there, along with her second grandfather. You can't stay—we'd all find you a nuisance," Wei Zhao said bluntly. Since Kang Jingming already knew that outside experts had come to the Song family looking for trouble, how could he possibly not know about Song Lingwei and Song Xianghua?

"Never mind, then. I'll be on my way!" Kang Jingming nodded and waved farewell to Wei Zhao.

"My pills—don't forget them!" Wei Zhao reminded him. If he could get another Qi-Gathering Pill now, he should stand a fair chance of breaking through to the late Heaven rank!

"I won't forget. You'll have them next time!" With that, Kang Jingming quickly slipped away.
