Still, on festivals and holidays, they had kept in frequent touch by phone.
"Sister-in-law Yuxi, how are things going? Can the leader's disciple go ahead and get betrothed to our Xinxin?" Guan Xiaopeng had been in a foul temper these past weeks. Guan Xin was plainly already promised in marriage, yet she was still tangled up with Wei Zhao!
It was not that he thought Wei Zhao a bad sort; it was that Guan Xiaopeng was a man who kept his word. That benefactor had helped him so greatly back then—how could he casually break the promise he had made?
To his mind, a promise was worth more than anything. The benefactor had since gone off to attend to some important matter, but that did not mean that once he had left, the agreement could be torn up at will. Guan Xiaopeng was not that kind of man!
"Yes, it's all settled on my end. We're only waiting on you now," Shen Yutang said. "I've already booked my flight; I should reach Songshan City the day after tomorrow. My disciple will arrive as well. You know the place—you pick a hotel, and I'll have him come to you."
"Good, good, no problem!" Guan Xiaopeng breathed a sigh of relief. In his mind, once this matter was set in stone, he would no longer have to fret over Guan Xin's feelings. It would be a done deal, and she could object all she liked to no avail.
He knew that, though Guan Xin sometimes threw little tantrums, when it came to matters of right and wrong she would still save him a little face. So no sooner had Guan Xiaopeng hung up than he set about making the arrangements...
When Guan Xin took her father's call she was somewhat helpless, but she knew this moment had to come sooner or later, so she had no choice but to agree. She had her plan all worked out anyway—she had gone online and ordered a whole non-mainstream getup and an arsenal of cosmetics.
On the morning of the blind date, Guan Xiaopeng had booked the finest hotel in Songshan City—the Starlight Splendor Hotel.
Guan Xin was not foolish enough to walk out of the house dressed in her non-mainstream outfit. That day she wore a perfectly normal casual suit. It was not much adorned, but Guan Xiaopeng was well pleased with the clean, crisp look of her.
That was the style he liked, and besides, that man's disciple was sure to be a capable sort with a keen eye. The more painstakingly one decked oneself out, the worse it compared to a return to plainness. So Guan Xiaopeng, well satisfied, brought Guan Xin along to the Starlight Splendor.
When they entered the private room, Shen Yutang and her disciple had not yet arrived. Guan Xiaopeng had come a little early—as the host, he could hardly wait for the guests to arrive before he did; that would have been impolite.
"Dad, I'm just going to the washroom to touch up my makeup and check that everything's in order," Guan Xin said, rising. The private room had its own washroom, so it was convenient for her to change.
"All right, go ahead!" Guan Xiaopeng was delighted. He took it that Guan Xin had come round now that she had agreed to the match, and was preparing to give the other party the best possible impression—otherwise why would she be so attentive?
Little did he know that no sooner had Guan Xin reached the washroom than she began to change. The outfit could not exactly be called revealing, but outlandish it certainly was!
Then Guan Xin began doing her makeup and dyeing her hair. She had specially bought an instant hair-dye spray online.
Guan Xin did not usually go in much for dressing up, but she had nonetheless practiced at home for a long while. With all this done up, she had become a regular little punk girl!
Only when all of this was finished did Guan Xin call Wei Zhao.
"Wei Zhao, where are you?" Guan Xin asked anxiously. "My dad's already brought me to the Starlight Splendor for the blind date. We're in the Xiyuan Hall on the third floor. When are you coming over?"
