Chapter 3624 — The God of Wealth's Little Helpers
The Blossom Guardian · Page 2 of 2
Wei Zhao's mining spot was tucked away in the most remote corner, the kind that no one had ever bothered with before. Several empty spots lay just outside it along the edge, and by past experience their jade yield was somewhat better than Wei Zhao's current spot—but Wei Zhao showed no intention of moving. In fact, if he did try to move, someone would immediately rush over to fight him for the spot until he tactfully gave it up. That was Meng Jueming's order: Wei Zhao could only huddle at the very worst mining spot in all of Mining Zone Seven.
But Wei Zhao didn't mind in the least. No one else needed to go to any trouble—he had settled himself quite comfortably at this most remote, most worthless spot, carrying himself with a touch of Lu Bianren's easygoing, find-contentment-anywhere air. In fact, even if the others wanted him to move out, he had no desire to. From this most remote spot he could stay completely out of the guards' line of sight—how wonderful was that!
"Getting all high and mighty, rookie? Busy, are we?" Meng Zhou gloated to himself for a while, then walked over to Wei Zhao. Anyone else who came to the mining zone and slacked off would get a sound thrashing from the guards, but Meng Zhou had been specially looked after by Meng Jueming, so the guards all turned a blind eye to him.
"Hm? If you've got something to say, say it quick. Don't get in the way of my work!" Wei Zhao had been about to stash a certain piece of waste jade into his jade pendant's space, but upon seeing Meng Zhou approach, he had to stop midway.
Heh, driven off to the worst mining spot and still got a temper on him! Then again, having a temper was only normal—who wouldn't have one in a place like this? Meng Zhou curled his lip and organized his words before speaking. "Nothing much. Just wanted to ask you—Cousin Jiu gave you all that spirit jade a couple days ago. Have you used it yet?"
So this is a probe to see whether I've discovered the waste jade? Wei Zhao's heart stirred, but he put on a cautious, guarded look. "No, it's just sitting there. What, you thinking of going back on the deal? Don't tell me you want it back? Let me tell you—I'm not going back to Mining Zone Ten, and don't even think about making me return that spirit jade!"
"Hey! What are you getting so worked up for? We're not trying to take it back, just asking!" Meng Zhou's heart settled. Having reached his conclusion, he paid Wei Zhao no further attention and turned to go.
Watching the fellow's reckless, retreating back, Wei Zhao couldn't help but laugh. Meng Jueming had actually sent this brainless thing to sound him out—was it poor judgment in choosing his men, or did he simply have a hole in his head? It was only thanks to Wei Zhao playing along; otherwise, with those few careless words from Meng Zhou, anyone else would have grown suspicious even if they hadn't been before!
But why had Meng Jueming sent this creature to probe him? Wei Zhao sank into thought. A moment later he shook his head with a knowing, amused smile. Could it be that these two had realized they couldn't dig up good jade in the dead Mining Zone Ten, and were scheming some way to kick him back there again?
Wei Zhao's guess was soon confirmed. When he finished work for the day and returned to his cave dwelling, he found, just as expected, Meng Jueming and Meng Zhou already waiting there.
The same remote corner as last time, and in Meng Zhou's hand the same black bag. Wei Zhao found the sight both laughable and exasperating. Judging by the setup, these two little gods of wealth were here to deliver him spirit jade again! RP
