Chapter 4547 — The Five-Venom Flood Dragon

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 3

Caution is never a bad thing, at any time. That spirit bird, cavorting about as it was, might well draw the attention of something no one could withstand—better to make it hold itself in check a while.

"It's fine. Let it play on its own. So long as it doesn't fly too far off, there shouldn't be much trouble. I swept the whole hundred-li radius with my divine sense—not a trace of any living creature to be found." Ghost Thing cut in, though: "For spirit birds like this one, frolicking is cultivation. This time is a rare stroke of fortune for it as well."

"Oh. Well, all right, then." Wei Zhao nodded. Since even Ghost Thing said so, there really should be no problem. Still scanning the space around them, he asked, "Senior, just how big is this place down here? It feels far vaster than the Five-Venom Marsh up above."

Those materialized five-element killing auras—each one a streak of five-colored brilliance—were natural sources of light in their own right, so while it was far dimmer down here than on the surface, visibility was still decent. With Wei Zhao's eyesight, nothing obstructed him worth mentioning. Yet one glance showed the space below to be boundless, its edges nowhere in sight.

"It should be. The particulars, though, I'm not clear on either. The ancient texts merely mentioned that such a source-space existed, and passed over it in a single phrase without saying what it was like." Ghost Thing was unwilling to be certain about this either, but one thing was sure: his divine sense had swept far and still not reached the edge. It was plainly many times larger than the Five-Venom Marsh above.

"Oh—speaking of which, Senior, did you go out of your way back then to search through the ancient books and records? The ones concerning the Five-Venom Marsh?" Wei Zhao could not help asking, rather puzzled.

Ghost Thing had never been here himself; his knowledge of the Five-Venom Marsh plainly came from old texts. Ordinarily, catching a glimpse of something in the ancient records would be nothing strange—but to know it in such detail as he did, he must have made a dedicated study of it.

"Just so. I once spent several whole years investigating this Five-Venom Marsh, combing through virtually every ancient text and record there was. I couldn't come in directly the way you have, boy, but when it comes to understanding this Five-Venom Marsh, I doubt anyone under heaven surpasses me!" Ghost Thing declared, confident and certain.

"And why was that? Could it be, Senior, that you too, like any other spirit beast, wished to claim this Five-Venom Marsh for your own?" Wei Zhao teased with a smile.

"Not so. Apart from a freak of nature like you, with your peculiar gift, no spirit beast or human cultivator could withstand the five-element killing aura—myself included. The reason I went to the trouble of investigating this Five-Venom Marsh back then was actually a rumor." Ghost Thing dangled the bait.

"What rumor?" Wei Zhao's interest was instantly roused.

"The rumor went that a flood dragon haunted this Five-Venom Marsh—and that it had been sighted by other spirit beasts more than once." Ghost Thing's tone was eerie and drawn out.

"A flood dragon?" Wei Zhao was startled at the words and instinctively raised his head to look at those five-element killing auras drifting back and forth overhead. Had he not felt them at close range, anyone would take them for genuine flood dragons beyond a doubt.
