Chapter 4685 — Wishful Thinking

The Blossom Guardian · Page 2 of 2

Hearing this answer, Huo Yudie immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Though a trace of shyness lingered, she no longer felt quite so utterly mortified as before. Since this was a normal part of the detoxification process, it meant the problem was not hers—it meant she was not the kind of woman the books described. And that was enough.

Wei Zhao's expression at that moment held a faint, ambiguous half-smile, which in truth was only because he was conversing with the ghostly thing through his spirit. Yet to Huo Yudie's eyes it naturally took on another meaning entirely. The girl had already been too embarrassed to lift her head; having finally found a way to save face, her face flushed crimson all over again.

"Hmph, it's all your fault I made a fool of myself—so I'm docking you ten percent. Thirty-seven it is!" Huo Yudie mustered her courage to raise her head and meet Wei Zhao's eyes, speaking in a huff.

"..." Wei Zhao was now completely speechless. What was with this woman? He had risked being buried alongside her to save her life, and in the end she turned around and clawed back even this small bit of profit—was she really this quick to turn on him? It seemed the old saying was absolutely right: of all people, women and petty men are the hardest to deal with...

"What? You have a problem with that?" Seeing Wei Zhao's odd expression, Huo Yudie gave a little snort, her pretty face slightly flushed: "Let me tell you, if I speak of what happened today, then for the sake of my reputation, my master will certainly kill you!"

"Ha?!" Wei Zhao's eyes went wide. He had just been wondering why the girl had suddenly turned a little shrewish, and then this sentence dropped on him out of nowhere, nearly choking him to death. She was actually using this against him? What kind of twisted logic was that?

Did this girl have any common sense at all? If a young woman like her went around telling people about such a thing, didn't she know she would be the one most humiliated? Or was it really as she said—that she had spent her whole life in cultivation, that her mental age was far younger than others, and so she simply did not understand even this most basic bit of worldly wisdom?

Seeing Wei Zhao struck dumb and staring by her one sentence, Huo Yudie's mouth curved up in triumph. She had finally shaken off the earlier awkwardness, and her eyes bent into two pleasing crescents as she said with a smug laugh: "Now you have nothing to say, do you? Heh heh, then it's happily settled!"

Huo Yudie's mood instantly soared. These were the very words Wei Zhao had once used to needle her; now at last she could turn them back on his head—repaying a man in his own coin. What a satisfying feeling!

"Heh heh, don't celebrate too soon, girl. The way I see it, even if you did tell people about today, it wouldn't do any good—it might even backfire," Wei Zhao said with a faint, unconcerned smile.

"What do you mean by that?" Huo Yudie looked at Wei Zhao with suspicion.

"You said it yourself—your master and Vice-Island Master Shangguan Tianxia are the closest of friends. Since I'm his personal disciple, maybe your master, upon hearing about this, will simply go with the flow and marry you off to me as a dual-cultivation partner. And when that happens, there'll be no medicine for regret." Wei Zhao raised an eyebrow with a smile.

"Hmph! Wishful thinking!" Huo Yudie spat softly, her pretty face slightly red, her cheeks once again covered in clouds of fire. Those sensitive words, "dual-cultivation partner," made her body go weak and tingling without her meaning it to, and instinctively she recalled that shameful scene from moments before.

"That's not necessarily so—I'm only telling the truth." Wei Zhao shrugged. (To be continued...) R752
