Chapter 4901 — A Flood of Sympathy?

Watching the girl's retreating figure, Wei Zhao and the others exchanged a smile. A playful curve lifted the corner of Wang Xinyan's mouth. "She's one of the Three Fairies, you know. Such a fine opportunity, and you don't even go make her acquaintance or keep her company. If other men heard, they'd say you're wasting heaven's gifts. This chance won't come twice."
"Right, right. Master Lin, you're squandering the opportunity!" Lu Xiaozhong chimed in at just the right moment.
"Then you go." Wei Zhao shot him an exasperated glare.
"I wouldn't dare. My old man won't let me touch women, and besides, I couldn't afford to. Lu Xiaozhong scratched his head sheepishly. Just look at Chang Laiting with his head stuck in the ground—if he couldn't even beat that thing, then a fairy like Ni Caiyue was something to dream about and nothing more. A toad can't feast on swan meat.
"Heh, at least you know your limits." Wei Zhao couldn't help but laugh. This Lu Xiaozhong was just like his father, Lu Dachang—most of the time he looked like a lump of shameless, rolling scoundrel, but in truth he had a keen eye for the way things stood. He was the sort who knew exactly when to bow to circumstances and never attempted what was beyond him; he only played the rogue when he was absolutely certain. One had to admit, that too was a most ingenious philosophy for getting by in the world.
"Heh heh, if I didn't even have that much judgment, your little Lu would have been beaten to death long ago," Lu Xiaozhong said with a smug grin.
Wei Zhao, Wang Xinyan, and Huang Xiaotao were speechless looking at one another. The fellow seemed to have completely forgotten that business back in Leidong City, when he'd fought someone over a Gestation Spirit Golden Pill—hadn't he nearly been beaten to death that time?
"Your little Lu doesn't have the qualifications, but you do, Master Lin. She's one of the Three Fairies of the Gaolin Sea Region, after all. And this Ni Caiyue, from the look of her, how should I put it..." Lu Xiaozhong tilted his head and thought for a long while, finally landing on the perfect adjective: "Very easy to fool!"
Aiya! Wei Zhao nearly kicked him in the face. Easy to fool? Did he look like some creepy uncle who went around swindling little girls?!
"If you want to fool someone, go do it yourself. I've no need. Besides, what's so special about the Three Fairies? There's one right here already." Wei Zhao curled his lip in exasperation.
"Oh, right! Miss Wang and Miss Huo are both Master Lin's fair confidantes!" Lu Xiaozhong smacked his head as it dawned on him—but then his eyes started darting about again. "Then that's all the more reason to go after that Ni Caiyue! Three fairies sharing one husband—wouldn't that be a fine tale?"
Wei Zhao and the others were utterly speechless. Lu Xiaozhong was not merely a comic treasure—he was an absolute buffoon!
"Come to think of it, that Ni Caiyue really is quite likable. Wei Zhao, if you're interested, we won't object," Wang Xinyan said, looking at Wei Zhao half in earnest, half in jest.
"I think so too. Having such a pure, lovely girl as a sister would be quite fun!" Huang Xiaotao chimed in, pointing at the barely-alive Chang Laiting on the ground. "Making her a dao companion to a wretched piece of scum like that—I can't bear to watch."
Hearing this, Wei Zhao gave them both an odd look and said helplessly, "Isn't this a flood of sympathy? You think you're adopting a stray animal?" (To be continued.)
