Chapter 258 — The Mysterious Man in Black
Years of Heartflutter Page 2 of 3
Sui Yuejin shuddered. Against a professional killer of Heng's caliber, there was no defense to be had. In his own company, for instance, the security system was extremely tight: not only were there guards on duty at the building's entrance, but the security room also held surveillance feeds for the entire tower.
He did not know how Yang Ce had gotten up here, but if Yang Ce could get up once, he could get up a second time. Did Sui Yuejin have a choice? Under the present circumstances, only by submitting to Yang Ce could he buy his life.
The security surveillance of the Immortal Tower was in fact quite rigorous. Without Yang Moyi's abilities, it would have been all but impossible to slip safely past every camera—unless one killed the guards in the duty room and security room and forced one's way in. But Yang Cenbin had not come this time to kill; he had come to use Sui Yuejin for something.
Until it was confirmed whether the Sun family members faced a threat to their lives, Yang Ce did not dare act rashly. But Yang Shuoxuan did not mind causing Tian Long a little trouble and internal strife. Sui Yuejin was just the man to play that role. "I understand," Sui Yuejin pledged. "I know what is at stake. I will not gamble with my own life."
"I will contact you by phone." Yang Ce hauled Sui Yuejin up from the floor and dumped him into his executive chair. "Now call your security room and tell them I am about to leave your office, and that they are not to make any rash moves—otherwise I will not mind killing someone." "What?" Sui Yuejin blinked, bewildered. The men in the security room were all still alive? Which meant Yang Ce had slipped past the security room's surveillance and come up the stairs?
As the company's chairman, Sui Diejin knew the security room's monitoring system very well. It was the switching type—meaning that no matter where Yang Xu entered the building, it should have been impossible to avoid being captured by the cameras entirely. Yet the security room had shown no reaction at all, which proved that Yang Ce had done it—truly done it.
Though how he had managed it, Sui Yuejin could not guess. And Yang Ce's demand that he call the security room might be, on the one hand, to show off that shadow-like skill of his, or on the other, simply to avoid displaying it again.
Sui Yuejin obediently dialed the security room downstairs. The phone was answered on the first ring. It seemed his guess had been right—Yang Ce had not touched the security room staff on his way up. "Security room? This is Sui Yuejin!" Sui Yuejin said into the phone. "Chairman Sui, good evening! Is there anything you need?" A clear, steady male voice came from the other end. "Nothing amiss in the company, I hope?" Sui Yuejin asked, feigning casualness. "No, all is well. Rest assured, Chairman Sui!" said the guard on duty. Sui Yuejin's heart lurched. Sure enough, they had not noticed a thing about Heng's ascent.
He glanced at Yang Pu out of the corner of his eye and saw that Yang Ce was smiling at him. Clearly, Yang Shuoxuan had guessed the meaning behind his idle question.
Yang Duoran knew what Sui Yuejin was thinking, but Yang Shuoxuan did not call him out on it; he let him ask, for only so could the man fear him all the more. "In a moment, a friend of mine will be leaving. He is in my office now. Please notify the guard on duty at the entrance reception and have him open the door." Sui Yuejin instructed. "Of course, no problem, Chairman Sui!" The guard agreed without a shred of suspicion.
Yang Ce nodded in satisfaction and, under Sui Yuejin's gaze, strode swaggeringly out of the office. Yang Ce was not afraid that Sui Yuejin would call the police; the dealings Sui Yuejin had been involved in would only bring him a worse death if reported, and Yang Ce could simply deny everything and say not a word about the assassin business. So Yang Shuoxuan did not mind being caught on the surveillance footage—he had already revealed his identity to Sui Yuejin, and there was no longer any need for concealment.
The guard at the entrance was most cooperative. Seeing Yang Ce come downstairs, he asked no questions, simply opened the company's front door and politely saw Yang Ce out. This was, after all, on the personal orders of Chairman Sui Yuejin—how would they dare ask questions?
Leaving the Immortal Tower, Yang Ce did not linger. He went straight to his BMW parked at the roadside not far away and headed back in the direction of Songjiang. It was already the middle of the night; he did not know whether Chen Shutang and the others had gone to rest. It was time to go back and look in on them.
Only after Yang Ce had gone did Sui Yuejin breathe a sigh of relief. His whole body felt drained, and he gasped for breath Weakly. Terrifying! This was the first time he had ever had a killer come knocking at his door!
Sui Yuejin swore that never again would he meddle in others' affairs, never again would he have anything to do with people from the assassin trade! That he had kept his life this time was sheer luck. After a few breaths, the pain in his chest jolted him back to his senses, and he hurriedly rang his secretary. "Come to my office!"
Secretary Yu was on the phone with his girlfriend, chatting away in high spirits, when Sui Yuejin's shout startled him. He hastily hung up and ran over, but the sight at the door gave him a shock! Sui Yuejin's mouth was full of blood, and there was a footprint on his face. Yu's eyes went wide. "Chairman Sui, what happened to you?"
"Call an ambulance, quick! Get me to the hospital!" Sui Yuejin ordered Little Yu. As for his injuries, Sui Yuejin was fairly confident: since Yang Ce still had use for him, Yang Ce would not have struck to kill—meaning his life was not in danger for the moment. "Oh, right away!" Little Yu nodded in a fluster, snatched up the telephone on the desk, dialed the hospital's emergency number, and ordered an ambulance.
Only after that did Little Yu ask with concern, "President Sui, what happened to you? Did robbers get into the company?"
"It is none of your business. Do not ask so many questions." Sui Yuejin waved a hand. He did not dare speak carelessly; he had barely half a life left, and he had no wish to lose the whole of it because his mouth could not keep still. "Oh..." Little Yu was anxious about Sui Yuejin's wounds but did not dare say much more, and only asked, "Then should we call the police?" "No!" Sui Yuejin said sternly. "And do not breathe a word of this to anyone!" Not long after Yang Ce left, a dark figure appeared at the main entrance of the Immortal Resort and knocked on the door. "Who is it? What do you want?" The security guards in the building had only just let Yang Ce go, and now, before much time had passed, someone was knocking, so they did not dare be negligent, and one of them called out. "Our boss left something in the building and sent me back to fetch it," the man in black told the guard on duty at the entrance. "And your boss is...?" the guard asked. "The gentleman who just went out—President Sui's friend," the man in black said.
"Oh, I see!" Hearing that the man was a subordinate of President Sui's friend, the guard's manner warmed considerably, and he hurried to open the building's door and let the man in. "Please, come in!"
"Thank you. I will be quick." With that, the man in black strode briskly into the building. Once inside, he smiled a strange smile. He did not head straight upstairs but turned toward the security room.
The guard on duty at the entrance had taken no precautions and naturally did not pay attention to which way the man in black went once he was inside; the guard strolled back to his post at his ease and settled down with a newspaper.
