Chapter 384 — Kevin's Tragedy
Once again Yang Ce abruptly reversed his running direction and charged toward Little Yezi's Passat, leaving the pursuing Kevin stumbling and nearly losing his balance once more!
This time Kevin was truly enraged. He came at him bawling and roaring: "The moment I catch you, it's your death day!"
"Run! Weren't you so tough? Weren't you going to kick me to death? Let's see you kick!" Yang Ce taunted, even turning his head to pull an exaggerated grimace at Kevin. "Dumb-ass robot, you thought you were hot stuff? Still can't outrun me... whoa!"
Yang Ce was gleefully mocking Kevin when he failed to watch the road ahead and "accidentally" crashed into the hood of Liu Yu's Passat, sprawling flat across it—which was the reason for that yelp of "whoa."
Hahahaha! Kevin wanted to laugh out loud! What did they call it—joy turning to sorrow? Extremes reversing? Weren't you strutting? Weren't you capable? Weren't you so damn impressive? Weren't you mocking me for not catching you? Weren't you begging me to kick you to death?
Now look at you! Even heaven is helping me—you walked without watching where you were going, you turned back to look at me, you pulled faces at me. Done for now, aren't you? Tragic, aren't you? Stunned, aren't you?
Grandpa's here—just wait to be kicked to death! Haha!
In an instant, Kevin's body was flooded with energy and drive. He rushed at Yang Ce in great strides, meaning to deliver a flying kick and snuff out that young life.
Yang Ce lay sprawled on the hood, pretending to be badly hurt, grimacing and baring his teeth, oblivious to the Kevin closing in from behind.
Kevin leaped up and lashed a kick at Yang Ce!
Kevin could picture it—Yang Ce sent flying by his kick, every bone broken, dead in midair! At the thought, a surge of inexplicable delight rose in his heart!
Heh... A cold smile flickered at the corner of Yang Juehuan's mouth. Kevin, my friend, I didn't mean to deceive you—but if I hadn't, I'd be the one kicked to death. So it's either me or you, and it had better be you. I still have to get to Yunnan; I can't die yet.
"Bang!" A gunshot cracked out abruptly, and in the very instant it sounded, Yang Ce abruptly rolled off the hood to one side...
"Boom!"
Kevin's kick landed on the hood and punched a hole clean through it!
Good heavens above, Yang Yongjin clicked his tongue in amazement—thank goodness he had dodged fast enough, or that kick would have run him clean through! Even if he survived, he'd be half dead and crippled!
Kevin's impact force was still considerable... but once Kevin's leg sank into the hood, it never came back up.
Yang Shuoxuan breathed a sigh of relief. If even this could not deal with Kevin, then his only option was to seize the chance, get into Liu Yu's car, and have him flee for their lives—abandoning the mission for now.
Liu Yu was worthy of being the ace elite of the field team. While Yang Ce and Kevin were chasing each other, he had readied his heavy sniper and waited to draw a bead on Kevin's right foot. The instant Yang Ce tumbled onto the hood, Liu Yu had already guessed that Yang Cenbin's move was a ruse to lure the enemy!
Otherwise, how could the ace of the special task force be so foolish as to fail to be caught by the enemy yet trip over a car hood and be unable to get up? If word of that got out, he'd be laughed to death. So it was plainly impossible.
So Liu Yu waited for Kevin to kick—and sure enough, Kevin did kick. Liu Yu wasn't about to indulge him; he fired a shot straight into the sole of Kevin's right foot...
Of course, Liu Yu was quite nervous. Yang Ce had sworn up and down that he should aim a shot at the sole of Kevin's right foot, but he had never told him the basis for it, so Liu Yu was not certain the shot would have any effect...
But from the look of things now, Kevin had not stirred for quite a while—evidently the shot had done its work!
Liu Yu pushed the door open and got out. Looking at the great hole Kevin's kick had torn in the hood, he could not help but feel a lingering chill—if that kick had landed on Yang Juehuan, Yang Ce would have been finished on the spot!
"Boss, are you all right?" Liu Yu glanced at the motionless Kevin, then said to Yang Yanchuan.
By then Yang Shuoxuan had scrambled up from the ground, brushed the dirt off himself, and shaken his head. "I'm fine. Didn't expect it to actually work—the poor bastard really is a tragedy, played for a fool by me just like that."
"Brain-dead, isn't he?" Liu Yu said. "Half man, half machine—what else would you call that but brain-dead..."
"Pfft..." Yang Xutang was greatly amused by Liu Yu's explanation. "The way you put it, he really is brain-dead..."
"Heh heh, right—boss, is this guy dead?" Liu Yu did not quite dare touch Kevin.
"Must be dead, I'd say?" Yang Ce glanced at Kevin's foot. Liu Yu's shot had been savage—the armor-piercing round had entered through the joint and shredded a mess of components and wiring inside Kevin's body. Best of all, it had wrecked the power line in his foot; there was no way this fellow could move now.
Only after hearing from Yang Yanzhou that Kevin was dead did Liu Yu dare reach out, haul Kevin out, and dump him on the ground. "Looks like he really is dead. Shame, though—we're in Las Vegas, and with a corpse like this it'll be no easy thing getting back into the country. Otherwise, handed over to our research institute, it would have done wonders for our technology!"
Liu Yu felt some regret. He knew well enough that the technology in Kevin's body was worth far more than the chip in his own hand!
"Oh, let me think of something, then." Hearing Liu Yu's words, Yang Xutang thought to himself: this could count as one last contribution to the Mystery Investigation Bureau before he left for Yunnan. If he didn't come back, the people of the Bureau would at least remember his merit and look after his family—that would be enough...
"You have a way?" Liu Yu was startled, then suddenly recalled that Yang Ce's connections in Las Vegas were remarkably wide.
"Mm, more or less. I'll ask around for someone in the smuggling business and ship it straight back," Yang Yuting said with a nod.
"Boss, you're a beast!" Liu Yu could not help but marvel—Yang Ce really was something, with more pull abroad than at home.
"Never mind that for now—let's see whether that chip is on him." As Yang Yanzhou spoke, he was already using his X-ray vision to search for the chip. "It's in the inner pocket of the vest under his jacket. Just take it out."
"Oh..." Liu Yu obeyed Yang Juehuan's words without question. He reached out, unbuttoned Kevin's jacket, then slipped his hand into the inner pocket of Kevin's vest. Sure enough, his fingers found something; he pulled it out and saw that it was exactly the missing chip they had been looking for!
But Liu Yu was not all that surprised. By now he was used to Heng's marvels—he had submitted utterly to Yang Ce.
