Chapter 382 — The Next Target

Years of Heartflutter

"Heh... I didn't know until just before you took that turn." Yang Shuoxuan did not deny it. Sooner or later, Liu Yu would learn of his ability; there was no need to conceal it. The two of them would shortly be heading to Yunnan for the same objective, and there was no point in hiding his hand.

Kevin was all the more baffled now. Earlier, he had worried that Yang Ce might muster a whole crowd of helpers; though he could wipe them all out, it would still cost him some effort. And now Yang Jiyan had, for his sake, led him to an open clearing!

It stretched away without end, so that one glance was enough to tell whether anyone lay in ambush—there was no concealing anyone here. In other words, Yang Ce had no intention of lying in wait to attack; he had deliberately drawn him to a deserted place!

What did that mean? Naturally, Kevin never imagined that Yang Ce meant to silence him for good, for he was utterly confident that he was invincible, that he was the strongest, that he was unmatched under heaven!

So his first thought was that Yang Ce had sought out an empty place in order to talk with him!

Seeing Yang Juehuan's car come to a stop, Kevin pulled up behind it and got out. He had no fear of a sneak attack from Yang Ce—let him strike from any direction; he would take them all on.

"Boss, what now?" Liu Yu stopped the car and, seeing Kevin step out, asked.

"Don't you have a sniper rifle? Just play around and fire over there in a bit—plenty of bullets anyway," Yang Yanzhou said. "When I tell you where to shoot, you fire straight away!"

"No problem!" Liu Yu nodded in agreement. "Should I get out of the car?"

"No need. Stay in the car." With that, Yang Yanzhou got out himself.

"Who the hell are you? What do you want?" Kevin demanded.

"Heh heh, you really want to know?" Yang Hengye asked.

"Naturally. Otherwise, why would you lure me here?" Kevin said.

"Oh, bringing you here—I was just a little curious..." Yang Ce went on trading idle pleasantries with Kevin, because his eyes were now secretly scanning the interior of Kevin's body...

Earlier, when facing Jetterson, time had been too tight for Yang Ce to run any sort of bodily CT scan on him; left with no choice, he had lured him into a boiler and burned him into gas...

So Yang Ce did not understand Jetterson's construction—but when he turned his penetrating gaze on Kevin, he was utterly stunned!

Was this even a human? Clearly not!

For inside Kevin's body was nothing but mechanical structure, not the internal organs of a normal human being! Yet what shocked Yang Ce most was not even this: the crucial point was that Kevin's head was in fact a normal physiological structure, with a brain and various organs inside, yet joined to the interior of the body by several wire-like things!

What on earth was this? Yang Ce was shaken. He had never imagined that "the Center's" technology had reached such a level—that they could combine machinery with a human brain!

That also explained why Kevin and Jetterson had bodies so hard and unyielding, impervious to bullets. He was simply made of machinery—how could he possibly fear being shot?

Still, when he thought of his own wondrous glasses—had they not also merged inexplicably with his body? At that thought, Yang Shuoxuan no longer found Kevin so astonishing. The principle was probably much the same, and his glasses were perhaps even a notch above theirs!

Their bodies and heads still required wires to connect them, whereas his glasses needed no wires at all—he simply put them on, and before long they had naturally fused with him. It seemed far more advanced than their design!

To find the weak point in Kevin's body, Yang Ce kept stringing him along with idle talk.

"Curious? Curious how you know about the Center, how you know Dr. Banlin?" Though in Kevin's view killing Yang Ce would be child's play, some things had to be clarified—otherwise he would have no way to answer to Dr. Banlin when he returned.

"Oh, I also know you're a robot. Am I right?" Yang Hengye said.

"You—" Kevin's face grew uglier and uglier! The fact that he was a robot was known to no one outside the Center; even within the Center, only a few core members of the R&D division and Dr. Banlin, head of that division, knew it—members of the other divisions had no idea he was a robot!

Yet the man before him actually knew he was a robot. Then just what was his background?

"Who the hell are you? Tell me, how do you know?" Kevin asked urgently.

"Oh... how do I know?" Yang Ce kept up the pointless chatter, while his eyes scanned Kevin's body without pause... This Kevin was truly built with precision—armed to the teeth from head to toe...

Wait—toe... All at once, Yang Ce spotted something on Kevin's foot that looked like a data interface! This, he supposed, must be the data port through which Kevin exchanged programs with the outside world?

Perhaps this was his weak point! If he damaged this program interface, shorted it out—could he finish him off outright? Yang Ce thought wickedly...

"What are you saying? What do you mean, how do I know? I'm asking you—if I knew, why would I be asking?" Kevin was baffled by Yang Juehuan's words, unable to make sense of the jumble.

"Oh, all right. Didn't you ask how I knew you were a robot? Then I'll tell you," Yang Ce said. Since he had found Kevin's weak point, there was no more need for idle talk. "Because I met a man before. His name was Jetterson."

"Jetterson?" Kevin's expression changed at once. "You know Jetterson?"

"Oh, I know him. I'm the one who killed him—how could I not know him?" Yang Hengye smiled.

"You... you killed him? Impossible! How could Jetterson be killed so easily?" Kevin stared at Yang Ce in disbelief. Jetterson had indeed vanished for a long time and never reappeared, and Dr. Banlin had kept entirely silent on the matter.

Now, hearing that Yang Ce had killed Jetterson, Kevin did not quite believe it, yet doubt had taken root. After all, Yang Ce knew so many things, and Jetterson had indeed disappeared—could he really have killed Jetterson?

"Not easily—it took a great deal of trouble to kill him," Yang Yanzhou said. "He was like you—iron head, bronze limbs, like Ultraman. How could I have killed him easily? It took me no end of effort to lure that fool into the combustion pool of a furnace and burn him straight into wisps of smoke..."

"You... you really did kill Jetterson?" Kevin asked, startled and doubtful.

"Why would I lie to you?" Yang Ce shrugged. "Now you understand why I brought you here, don't you? Because the next target I'm going to kill is you, Mr. Kevin."
