Chapter 647 — The Joyous Zhong Yongliang Family

The Blossom Guardian

"Son, I have two pieces of tremendous good news for you!" Zhong Fabai said excitedly.

"Huh? What good news? And two of them?" Zhong Yongliang could hear the excitement in his father's voice, but he could not imagine what news could excite him so much — and two pieces of it at that.

"Son, the first piece of good news is that you will soon be a man again! Young Master Bing spoke to An Liwen, and An Liwen's people have found a matching kidney for you! I'm on my way to the school to pick you up right now and take you for the transplant!" Zhong Fabai said excitedly.

"I have a kidney? I finally have a kidney again?" Zhong Yongliang nearly dropped his phone. "Dad, am I hearing this right? I'll soon be a whole man again?"

"You heard right! I'm already on my way to the school to get you!" Zhong Fabai said. "So you see, son, your poisoning wasn't for nothing. We do things for Young Master Bing, and Young Master Bing truly looks out for us underlings — the kidney came just like that!"

"Great! I'll wait at the school gate right now!" Zhong Yongliang ignored Gao Xiaofu's astonished look and ran straight for the school gate.

"Wait, son, that's only the first piece of good news — there's another one!" Afraid Zhong Yongliang would hang up, Zhong Fabai hurried on. "The second is even better than the first!"

"More good news? What could be better than that?" Zhong Yongliang was taken aback. To his mind, getting a matching kidney and becoming a man again was the best thing that could possibly happen — how could there be anything better?

"Heh heh, the news is this: the kidney you're getting is Wei Zhao's!" Zhong Fabai burst out laughing. "Wei Zhao was seized by An Liwen, and by coincidence his kidney happens to match yours!"

"Ah ha ha ha ha!" Zhong Yongliang roared with laughter, tears nearly coming to his eyes. "Now that's good news — the best news there could be! Wei Zhao's kidney, transplanted into me? That's fantastic! From now on, every time I pick up a girl, I'll think of how Wei Zhao made his contribution to me!"

"Then wait for me — I'm coming to get you right now!" Seeing his son so happy made Zhong Fabai happy too.

Gao Xiaofu chased Zhong Yongliang out of the school, baffled. He saw Zhong Yongliang laughing with enormous delight, and once the call ended he could not help asking, "Brother Liang, what's going on? Why are you laughing so happily?"

"Ha ha, you have no idea!" Zhong Yongliang hung up and was still beside himself with joy. "Xiaofu, I'm about to have a kidney again! My dad called — they've found a matching kidney, and I'm going in for the transplant right away!"

"Ah! Then I really must congratulate you, Brother Liang!" Gao Xiaofu said hurriedly upon hearing the news.

"That's right — I'll soon be a man again, and we'll see whether those people still mock me for having only one kidney!" Zhong Yongliang nodded. "And there's another piece of good news: guess whose kidney is going to me?"

"Whose?" Gao Xiaofu had been standing too far away earlier and had not caught the phone conversation between Zhong Yongliang and Zhong Fabai.

"Ha ha, it's Wei Zhao's!" Zhong Yongliang said excitedly. "Wei Zhao's kidney is going to me — now tell me, isn't that a joyous thing?"

Gao Xiaofu was dumbstruck. But once he recovered, he and Zhong Yongliang dissolved into laughter together — it really was a joyous thing...

Wei Zhao had been dressed in a hospital gown. An Liwen dismissed all the doctors and nurses, and personally pushed Wei Zhao's stretcher toward the operating room.

"Wei Zhao, I'll bet you never imagined this, did you? You're about to have your kidney cut out, and the funniest part is that it's going to Zhong Yongliang!" In the prep room outside the operating theater, An Liwen looked at Wei Zhao, who was about to be carved up at will, and could not resist a mocking jab.

"Yes, I never imagined it — never even thought of it," Wei Zhao said.

"Not thinking of it doesn't matter. You're about to have your kidney cut out... Gah?" An Liwen nearly jumped out of his skin. Why was Wei Zhao talking? Wasn't he unconscious? Had he started hearing things?

Just as An Liwen was about to check whether his ears were playing tricks on him, he saw Wei Zhao sit up from the stretcher, looking at him with a faint, ambiguous smile...

"You... you... how are you awake?" By now An Liwen finally understood that he was not hearing things — otherwise he could hardly be seeing things as well, could he? Wei Zhao really was awake!

"I was never unconscious in the first place," Wei Zhao said with a shrug.

"Impossible! I clearly drugged the wine — how are you not unconscious?" As An Liwen spoke, he edged his body slowly toward the opposite wall, where an emergency response button was mounted.

Though Wei Zhao had woken up, An Liwen was only somewhat surprised, not alarmed, for this was the headquarters of the kidney-harvesting syndicate — he did not believe Wei Zhao could stir up any trouble here. So long as he pressed that button, the preparation room of the operating suite would be instantly flooded with anesthetic mist. This too had been designed from the start, to guard against a kidney victim suddenly turning violent; it had simply never been used.

"Your question is a rather foolish one. However you didn't pass out, that's exactly how I didn't pass out," Wei Zhao said.

"I have the antidote!" An Liwen was only too glad to stall for time with Wei Zhao, and he kept inching, bit by bit, toward that wall.

"Yes, you're right." Wei Zhao nodded. "You had the antidote on you. I took it and ate it."

"Ga?" It struck An Liwen all at once — when they were drinking, Wei Zhao had indeed come close to him once and patted him a few times on the body. Could it be that he had stolen the antidote then?

"All right, no point dreaming about pressing that button. Get on the operating table and take your kidney transplant!" With that, Wei Zhao nimbly sprang up from the stretcher and brought a knife-hand chop down on An Liwen's neck. An Liwen did not even manage a grunt before he blacked out cold.

Wei Zhao had excellent control over his own strength — he could not strike An Liwen dead, yet the man would not be waking for quite some time. Wei Zhao then gave An Liwen's body a few casual presses and kneads at certain acupoints, which would let An Liwen feel no pain while unconscious.

Wei Zhao was not certain whether there would be anesthetic when the kidney transplant began on the operating table, nor whether its effect would be enough to keep An Liwen soundly unconscious and insensible. So, to be safe and to ensure the transplant went off smoothly and successfully, Wei Zhao simply did the job himself.

If it turned out there was no anesthetic, that was no matter either — An Liwen would not be waking up at all within the next few hours.
