Chapter 795 — Wei Zhao Is Here Again

The Blossom Guardian

The agreement he had made with Wei Zhao yesterday had in fact become void the moment the bomb went off. His relationship with Wei Zhao had plunged back to freezing point, so it stood to reason that Wei Zhao would come here to make trouble!

But when Zhong Fabai's thugs actually moved to gang up on Wei Zhao, Li Cihua was instantly terrified. My God, you reckless fools — Wei Zhao is a fighter who put even a Mystic-rank expert in bed to recuperate, and you worthless bunch still dream of giving Wei Zhao trouble?

Isn't that just asking to die? Besides, if Wei Zhao knocked all these men flat, there would be no demolition of the shantytown at all. The thugs meant to intimidate the residents would have been beaten by Wei Zhao — who, then, would be left to intimidate?

"Stop!" Li Cihua had no choice but to shout, and came running over as fast as he could.

But Li Cihua had called out a step too late. One thug, on fairly good terms with the man Wei Zhao had kicked flying earlier, had wanted to avenge him and had already struck first. The result was the same as before: he too was sent flying backward and landed squarely on the first man, then rolled his eyes and lay there, neither alive nor dead.

Li Cihua came running up drenched in sweat and could not help heaving a sigh. "Wei Zhao, what are you doing here? Didn't we agree yesterday that you wouldn't interfere with the shantytown demolition?"

"I'm not interfering. My friend's girlfriend's mother got beaten up — am I not even allowed to hit back?" Wei Zhao did not regard Li Cihua as worth his attention at all and could not be bothered to explain further. "What about the money for my car? You blew up my car — when are you going to pay?"

Zhong Fabai's thugs were all dumbstruck. On one hand, they were in awe of Wei Zhao's skill — before anyone could even see clearly what had happened, two men were already down. On the other, they were puzzled: how dared Wei Zhao speak to Li Cihua in such a manner? Was he not afraid of the power behind Li Cihua?

"Naturally I won't shortchange you on your money." Li Cihua cursed his own bad luck in silence. Of all people these thugs could have beaten, why did it have to be the mother of Wei Zhao's underling's girlfriend? The connection was a roundabout one, but Wei Zhao's intervention was still beyond reproach. "I'll cover the medical expenses!"

"Oh. And the demolition compensation?" Wei Zhao pressed on.

"I'll pay the demolition compensation according to the rules!" Li Cihua said through gritted teeth. This was the condition he had agreed to with Wei Zhao before; now, to buy Wei Zhao's non-interference, he had no choice but to compensate in this way. Otherwise, if Wei Zhao came and stirred things up again, he could forget about demolishing anything at all!

Facing someone of Wei Zhao's bully-king caliber, Li Cihua truly had no temper left at all! Openly he could not be killed, and playing dirty had only gotten his own building blown up. For now, this man was not to be provoked — but could he not even be avoided?

"Oh, all right then. I just came to give you a little reminder." Wei Zhao nodded. To him it was no more than a lift of the hand, but for the residents of the shantytown it was a tremendous benefit!

Compensating according to the standard still would not let them take the money and buy a new apartment outright, but at least it was enough for a mortgage on one! It could at least give them some psychological comfort.

When Xiaofen's parents saw that she was unharmed, their hearts were set at ease at once, and Xiaofen's mother, forgetting the pain on her face, hugged her daughter tenderly. "Child, as long as you're all right, that's what matters. You scared your mother to death..."

"Xiaobo and Wei Zhao saved me..." Xiaofen sighed. "But Kang Jingming — he may have been crushed to death..."

"Kang Jingming? Crushed to death? How was he crushed? Is it true? If he really was crushed to death, that would be the best news in the world!" Xiaofen's mother was stunned for a moment, then said delightedly.

Seeing that expression on her mother's face, Xiaofen knew how much her mother loathed Kang Jingming — to hear that he was dead actually made her this happy! Though Xiaofen hated Kang Jingming too, having seen him crushed to death with her own eyes, she still felt a little uneasy that she could clearly have saved him and yet had not stopped it.

She was a kind person. Even though Kang Jingming had done things to her that were beyond the pale, Xiaofen had never thought of killing anyone.

"Ah, it's a long story..." And so Xiaofen told her mother about Kang Jingming coming to see her this morning, including the fact that Kang Jingming had compensated her with five hundred thousand yuan...

"Really? He gave you five hundred thousand? Seems his heart isn't so bad after all?" Xiaofen's mother was taken aback. She had not expected Kang Jingming to actually pay her daughter five hundred thousand — so he wasn't completely devoid of conscience after all; he still had a bit of a good heart?

She had once envied Tang's mother's family, saying that when Tang Jucheng's leg was crushed, they had actually been compensated three million, while her own Xiaofen's leg had been ruined with no compensation at all. She never thought it would come true today. Life was truly marvelous — sometimes everything changed overnight.

"I don't know. But he and Wei Zhao said it was hush money, to keep me from ever mentioning what happened between us in front of others." Xiaofen told her mother. "Wei Zhao said Kang Jingming wants to pursue Nurse Guan Xin at the hospital and was afraid I'd make trouble for him, so that's why he gave me five hundred thousand!"

"What? Is that so? A leopard can't change its spots!" Hearing that Kang Jingming's reason for paying was this, Xiaofen's mother was instantly furious. "Then we should take this money all the more — why not, since it's free! With a person like that, take however much he gives you from now on!"

Hearing her mother say the same, Xiaofen no longer felt the pressure she had before, and nodded.

Xiaofen's mother was overjoyed. With Wei Zhao here, he had forced Li Cihua to compensate the residents of the shantytown according to the standard, and her own family had come into five hundred thousand yuan out of thin air — a windfall beyond all expectation. With that money, buying a spacious new home would be more than covered, with enough left over for appliances, furniture, and renovations.

She decided to go find Tang's mother that very afternoon and have her take her to look at houses. Their own home was gone already; this was something that had to be settled quickly, without any further delay.

Over there, Li Cihua's tune suddenly changed: he would compensate the shantytown residents according to the standard. The former residents stopped making a fuss. In truth, their demands had been simple — as long as they were compensated according to the standard, that was enough!

They did not expect a rich and powerful real estate company like Li Cihua's to pay them any more than that, and in fact they did not dare cross Li Cihua. Li Cihua's name rang loud throughout Songshan City — he was the number one man in the underworld.

Kang Jingming was sitting in Xiaofen's home watching television, thinking smugly to himself that from now on he could pursue Guan Xin boldly and without restraint. What kind of injury should he arrange for himself next? It had to be an external wound, and not too slight either — otherwise, what if Guan Xin just handed him another band-aid to send him on his way?
