Chapter 899 — The Eldest Miss Takes Advantage?

The Blossom Guardian

Wang Zhifeng shook his head and thought to himself, why had Tang Zhi's attitude turned so cold as well? Could it be that Wei Zhao had said something to her, and she too had learned of those matters of his, which was why she now dared to treat him with such indifference? At this thought, Wang Zhifeng could not help but feel a twinge of worry...

Given Tang Zhi's character, even though life was now much better than before, she would never be so extravagant as to take a taxi. Yet this time she flagged one down and rode straight to the villa district.

How beautiful! That was Tang Zhi's first impression upon arriving at the villa district. Every villa was spacious and bright, even finer than Fatso Lai's. Earlier, when Tang Zhi had seen her family's new house, she had already thought it lovely, but only upon coming here did she learn what true luxury was.

So Gu Mengyao's family was this wealthy! Tang Zhi sighed inwardly. If she truly had to compete with the eldest miss, then what did she have to compete with?

But the thought flashed past in an instant. Tang Zhi's whole heart was now fixed on Wei Zhao. She paid the fare and came to stand before Villa A0033, then pressed the doorbell.

"Sister Yaoyao, someone's at the door," Shen Yushu said.

"Oh..." Gu Mengyao was staring at Wei Zhao somewhat absently, lost in thought about who knew what. Hearing Shen Yushu, she merely gave a reflexive murmur.

"Sister Yaoyao?" Shen Yushu called again.

"Oh..." Gu Mengyao answered once more, but gave no other response.

Shen Yushu had no choice but to run and answer the door herself.

"Wei Zhao..." Gu Mengyao had not caught a word of what Shen Yushu said; her thoughts had long drifted back to the first time she met Wei Zhao. Back then he wore a coarse cloth shirt that was worn and rustic, and trousers so old they could not have been older. Gu Mengyao, never good at communicating with strangers, had naturally rejected this somewhat slovenly stranger from the bottom of her heart.

But after Wei Zhao bathed and changed his clothes, Gu Mengyao had to admit that he was quite sharp-looking; at least, a boy who looked like that ought to be popular with the ladies. Yet she simply did not take to him. A stranger had suddenly appeared in their villa; how could she adapt to it all at once?

After a huge quarrel with Daddy, Gu Mengyao had no choice but to accept the reality of Wei Zhao's presence. But out of an instinctive rejection and wariness of strangers, the eldest miss gave him no friendly looks. To guard against any improper designs on his part, Gu Mengyao called her best friend Xiaoshu over to stay with her in the villa.

As Wei Zhao settled in, conflicts multiplied. After Gu Mengyao drank from a soda bottle carrying Wei Zhao's saliva, she nearly went mad! She had indirectly kissed this scoundrel? Gu Mengyao was utterly revolted and truly wanted to drive the wretch out of the villa!

But now? She would ache for him, weep for him, cast aside her shyness and reserve for him. Why? Just when had it begun to change? Was it from the first time he saved her? Or had she simply come to accept him after spending so long together?

Gu Mengyao did not know, truly did not know. She did not know why, but she simply no longer disliked him. On the contrary, she had come to depend on him, to regard him as one of the villa's own, as family. With him there, she felt so very safe...

For fear of losing Wei Zhao, the eldest miss had, for the first time, vied jealously with another pretty girl and said things that even she herself found embarrassing!

Just today, when Wei Zhao said they should learn to look after themselves, Gu Mengyao felt as though her heart had been torn to shreds. It was the wrenching pain of losing a loved one, just like watching General Weiwei struck down by Yukun — even worse...

She did not know what place she held for Wei Zhao in her heart. Family? Kin? Friend? Or merely a hanger-on? Or perhaps... she did not know at all?

She truly did not know. She only knew that if she lost Wei Zhao, she would be very, very sad...

"I'm sorry... I always bring you trouble..." The eldest miss gently stroked Wei Zhao's cheek and murmured.

Shen Yushu ran to the villa gate. Seeing that it was indeed Tang Zhi, she opened the door, though she was at a loss for what to say.

"How is Wei Zhao?" Tang Zhi asked anxiously.

"Still the same..." Shen Yushu let Tang Zhi into the villa and said, "You can see for yourself in a bit. Anyway, I think Shield Bro should be fine — he's really amazing!"

Tang Zhi frowned and thought, what use is what you think? You are no master prophet.

"Over there — that's Shield Bro's room." After leading Tang Zhi into the villa, Shen Yushu pointed out Wei Zhao's room and said to her.

Tang Zhi glanced around the ground floor of the villa, then asked casually, "Where do you all sleep?"

"Upstairs..." Shen Yushu answered without thinking.

"Oh. Ha." Tang Zhi breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

"Ah — no, the rooms down here are guest rooms. Shield Bro is staying upstairs with Sister Yaoyao now." Shen Yushu realized she had let something slip and hurried to correct herself.

"Oh. That's nice." Tang Zhi nodded.

"Nice?" Shen Yushu blinked, her eyes going wide, and then she understood — Tang Zhi simply had not believed a word she said.

Shen Yushu shrugged. That mouth of hers — why did it have to run so fast? A regular chatterbox, she was. She had worked so hard to fool Tang Zhi earlier, claiming Sister Yaoyao and Shield Bro were taking a shower, and now the lie had crumbled on its own.

Tang Zhi entered Wei Zhao's room, and the first thing she saw was Gu Mengyao sitting at the edge of the bed. The young miss seemed unaware that anyone had come in; her right hand rested on Wei Zhao's cheek. Tang Zhi's brows knit instinctively, and an uncomfortable feeling stirred in her chest.

Tang Zhi had already let her anger cool. She had come here with no intention of quarreling with the young miss — she only wanted to stay by Wei Zhao and see whether he was all right. But Gu Mengyao did not have to be so shameless! Wei Zhao had fainted; how could she take advantage of him like that?

"Ahem, ahem!" Tang Zhi cleared her throat twice. "Men and women should keep their distance. Young miss, have some self-respect..."

Gu Mengyao had not noticed Tang Zhi's arrival, and the sudden voice startled her. Her face flushed at once, and the hand on Wei Zhao's cheek trembled; she snatched it away, like a mistress caught in the act by the lawful wife, and said with a note of grievance, "I... I just saw that Wei Zhao's face was a little dirty, so I was wiping it for him. Don't misunderstand..."

The young miss was tripping over her own words.
