Chapter 2679 — Wei Zhao Rushes Over

The Blossom Guardian

"Uncle Zhu, listen to me. No matter what method you use, you must stall for time. Zhao Qibing cannot be allowed to succeed—he must not even touch Yuning. Do you understand?" Wei Zhao had no time to explain further and simply issued him a direct, ironclad order.

"Ah? All right..." Uncle Zhu was puzzled as to why Wei Zhao would want him to stop it, but he agreed all the same. His guess was that Wei Zhao wanted the scheme to fail and be exposed, so that—since Yuning had come to no harm—the hidden Yu family would adamantly refuse the marriage alliance with the hidden Zhao family, and might even turn on them and come to blows.

What Uncle Zhu could not understand was why Zhao Qibing was not even to touch her. In his view, if Zhao Qibing took some liberties with his hands and feet but did nothing of substance, the hidden Yu family would be all the more furious—better, surely, than if Yuning suffered no slight at all.

But it was Wei Zhao's command, and Uncle Zhu could only carry it out to the letter. He was a little worried, though: "But Zhao Qibing isn't a fool. If I stall for time and he won't listen to me, what then?"

"If stalling fails, it doesn't matter if you're exposed—just knock Zhao Qibing unconscious first and worry about the rest later!" Wei Zhao said.

"What?" Uncle Zhu was stunned on the spot. He truly could not make sense of Wei Zhao's thinking. Wei Zhao had only just brought him to heel, making him a nail driven into the hidden Zhao family, and before he had served any purpose at all he was to be exposed—that hardly served Wei Zhao's interests, did it?

"Don't worry about being exposed. From now on you'll stay at my side. Once I put the word out, the hidden Zhao family won't dare touch you." Wei Zhao gave Uncle Zhu a calming pill.

"I understand!" This time Uncle Zhu knew Wei Zhao was set on doing things this way. But with his worries about the aftermath gone—and with the prospect of following at Wei Zhao's side at all times, which was no bad thing at all—Uncle Zhu hastily agreed.

"Where are you? I'll come right away!" Having given Uncle Zhu his instructions, Wei Zhao breathed a small sigh of relief and quickly asked.

"I'm in the presidential suite, Room 2909 of the Diyu Grand Hotel in Diyu City, near Tianyu Town." Uncle Zhu had long since memorized the address and told Wei Zhao directly.

"Good, I've got it. Wait for me." With that, Wei Zhao hurriedly hung up, pushed the door open, and walked out of the room.

Wei Zhao's frantic exit rather startled Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu!

"Wei Zhao, what are you doing?" the eldest young lady asked, giving him a strange look.

"Yaoyao, a friend of mine is in trouble. I have to go out right now. You and Xiaoshu go to bed early—I may not be back tonight." Wei Zhao spoke urgently.

"Ah, all right." Seeing how anxious Wei Zhao looked, Gu Mengyao asked no further questions.

Shen Yushu, however, was full of doubt. Yu Yi had just called to ask about Wei Zhao's whereabouts, and now Wei Zhao was about to go out—was there some connection between the two? Still, Shen Yushu would not stop Wei Zhao from leaving. For one thing, Yu Yi had given her no order to do so; and even if she had, she would have found some excuse to stall.

She simply had a vague feeling that this matter must have something to do with the hidden Yu family. And she wondered whether Wei Zhao could resolve it cleanly.

Wei Zhao did not go to the courtyard to get the car. Instead he went to the place behind the villa where the spirit beasts lived and beckoned: "Xiaofeng, come out, quick—take me to Diyu City."

From here to Diyu City was a drive of more than three hours. Even if Wei Zhao were a divine driver, he could not get there in a short time—two hours at the very least—and with that much time, anything could happen. But Wei Zhao did not need to drive, because he had the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast as his hidden card.

The Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast was far faster than any car—faster, even, than most cultivators. Especially now that Wei Zhao had raised its strength to the peak of the late Mystic rank, its speed and stamina were greater still; it could run from East Sea City to Diyu City in one breath without the slightest effort.

Wei Zhao did not normally use it because the creature looked far too bizarre—riding it down the street would be asking for a crowd to gather and gawk. But today he could not afford to care, especially since it was already evening and there was nothing much to be discreet about.

"Rrragh, rrragh..." The Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast answered and immediately bounded out to Wei Zhao's side. Wei Zhao swung himself onto its back and sent it racing off toward Diyu City...

Wei Zhao did not know the exact location, but he knew the general direction. Astride the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast, he called up the navigation map on his phone and used the indicated direction to make fine adjustments to the beast's route.

The Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast's speed could truly be described as flying like the wind and flashing like lightning—faster even than Wei Zhao's Butterfly Subtle Steps qinggong at full stretch. Wei Zhao's lightness skill was not slow, but it lacked endurance and flagged after a while; he could never have maintained that pace all the way to Dishui City without pause. And even if he could restore his strength along the way with the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, he would still be far slower than the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast.

On his side, Zhao Qibing was taking his time in the shower. Anxious as he was, he was not one of those fools whose brains had been scrambled by lust. He had already started the recording, and it would only be meaningful if Yuning came on to him of her own accord—if he made the advances, the recording would be worthless. So he had to wait until the drug Yuning had taken took full and irreversible effect.

Thus Zhao Qibing did not mind washing a while longer. He looked at his two increasingly sturdy legs with great satisfaction. Though they had been broken many times, ever since he began practicing the Thousand Legs, they had become as hard as legs of iron. Two more sessions and the first form would be mastered—Zhao Qibing could hardly wait for that moment!

One had to admit that the Thousand Legs martial art was a strange and uncanny thing. Though it was an internal-school technique, once unleashed it achieved the effect of cultivating both inner and outer at once: on one hand, it could manifest several legs at once; on the other, each leg was as hard as one trained in the external-school Iron Legs skill. In other words, though this martial art was hard to master, the advantages it brought once mastered were many.

Uncle Zhu waited anxiously in the outer room, keeping constant watch on the sounds from within. Zhao Qibing was still in the shower, which rather set Uncle Zhu's mind at ease—the longer he washed, the better, saving Uncle Zhu the trouble of thinking up ways to stall for time.
