Chapter 3438 — A Chance Encounter on the Street

The Blossom Guardian

"Uh... better not. Let's wait until Wei Zhao is dead before we make a move..." Kang Jinglong did not dare do any such thing. After all, if Wei Zhao died, everything would be easy; but what if he did not die?

If he grabbed Wang Xinyan first and Kang Jingming still could not hold out, then he would be in a sorry state. Even if Wei Zhao did not beat him to death, he would leave him crippled! Even if he did nothing at all to Wang Xinyan and merely grabbed her, he would still never hear the end of it!

"All right then, just wait for my good news!" Kang Jingming could see his elder brother's cowardice, but he said nothing more. After all, he and Kang Jinglong were tarred with the same brush—without several backers and skilled hands, he truly would not dare go pick a fight with Wei Zhao alone. That would be far too dangerous.

That evening, the Kang family mansion was brightly lit with lanterns and decorations, celebrating Kang Jingming's triumphant return home. The festivities carried on until past one in the morning before everyone finally went to sleep. If Kang Jingming had not had to head to Yanjing early the next morning for his investigation, they probably would have stayed up all night!

Because Kang Jingming was simply too formidable, bringing along four experts at the peak of the late Heaven rank with Great Perfection in strength—something even ordinary ancient families could not match.

Kang Jingming did not go straight to the Song family to cause trouble. Instead, he settled in the area nearby and slowly carried out his observations! He wanted to see whether the people of the Paoli clan were in the vicinity!

He had been to the Paoli clan before, so he was thoroughly familiar with what its people looked like. The difference was obvious at a single glance, so if these people were nearby, they could never escape Kang Jingming's eyes.

"Junior Brother Kang, these past few days, the Song family doesn't seem to have had any outsiders come by?" After two days of surveillance, no outsiders had appeared at the Song family—only a few Song disciples coming and going, clearly out purchasing goods. Xiao Er therefore asked, somewhat puzzled.

"That's right, I don't see any either. Even if the Paoli clan came to the Song family, they couldn't stay cooped up indoors all day. There would be nothing for them to do at home. If they weren't going to wander about a little, then they must have gone back!" Kang Jingming nodded.

"So what do we do next?" Xiao Er asked.

"Let's wait a bit longer. Once we're certain there's no one else at the Song family, we'll go in!" Arrogant as Kang Jingming was this time, he was still very cautious.

"Fine! A little caution never hurts!" Xiao Er quite agreed with Kang Jingming's view.

That afternoon, however, Kang Jingming saw Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan leave the Song family together, and in that instant it was as if he had discovered a new continent!

"So Wei Zhao really is at the Song family!" Kang Jingming was overjoyed. "If the Paoli clan were also at the Song family, Wei Zhao couldn't have come out without bringing them along. It looks like the Paoli clan isn't at the Song family! Wait here while I go probe Wei Zhao!"

"What? Junior Brother Kang, you're going in person?" Xiao Er was startled. "There won't be any danger, will there?"

"Of course not. I'll just pretend it's a chance encounter and ask him a few questions. He can't do anything to me!" Kang Jingming said. "I know Wei Zhao. He's not about to tear things wide open with the Five Luminaries Sect, and besides, he needs me to refine pills for him!"

"All right then. Be careful!" Seeing that Kang Jingming had made up his mind, Xiao Er said nothing more.

In truth, Wei Zhao was accompanying Qiu Lingshan on a shopping trip today, because Qiu Lingshan had asked him to take her out for a walk. After all, Wei Zhao could not stay at the Song family forever—he would have to go back. Shen Yushu was about to head to the Flaming Mountain, and Wei Zhao had promised to take her there, so he too needed to leave.

Qiu Lingshan, for her part, simply wanted to find a taste of romance. Her relationship with Wei Zhao had been rather bumpy—she had been the one chasing him for the most part. Although Wei Zhao had later accepted her, Qiu Lingshan always felt that her relationship with him fell far short of Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, Wang Xinyan, Tang Zhi, and Feng Xiaoxiao—she was not even as close to him as Sun Jingyan. So Qiu Lingshan wanted to deepen their bond a little!

Since Qiu Lingshan rarely made such a request, Wei Zhao naturally agreed.

In truth, Qiu Lingshan was not the sort of girl who loved shopping and buying things. She had come out this time merely for a feeling—as the saying goes, she did not care what they bought while shopping, only who she was shopping with!

The two of them wandered aimlessly along the street. The goods on display were dazzling in their variety, yet Qiu Lingshan paid them little mind, simply walking along with Wei Zhao as they chatted about the amusing things that had happened when they first met in Songshan City.

Though only a year had passed, it felt as if a very long time had gone by, and as they talked, both of them were overcome with sighs of emotion!

As they were walking, someone suddenly came toward them head-on, and Wei Zhao paused slightly. Qiu Lingshan was startled too, for they had not seen this person in a long while!

"Ha, isn't this Leader Wei Zhao? What a coincidence—what are you doing here?" Kang Jingming, catching sight of Wei Zhao, hurried over in great surprise to greet him.

"Kang Jingming? Weren't you at the Xuandan Sect and the Five Luminaries Sect? What are you doing all the way out here?" Wei Zhao was rather puzzled about Kang Jingming's purpose in coming, though wherever this fellow went, no good ever came of it!

"Oh, I just went home to put on a bit of a show, then came to Yanjing to have a look around, make some connections, drum up a little business!" Kang Jingming shrugged. "I'm part of the Five Luminaries Sect and the Xuandan Sect now—quite the big shot—but things aren't going so well back home. The pill business has been hit hard by your Medicine Cauldron, so there's no way to make it work. I've got a lot of stock piling up. I can only see about contacting some auction houses and selling those pills off to the secular world!"

"Oh, is that so?" Kang Jingming spoke with such conviction that it almost sounded like the truth, but no matter how you looked at it, this fellow did not seem like an honest man. Still, these matters had little to do with Wei Zhao, so he merely said, "What about my pills? When are you going to give them to me? I'm already at the peak of the mid-Heaven rank—if you don't give them to me soon, I'll hit the level cap and they'll be useless to me. You might as well keep them for your own collection!"

"Uh... you've leveled up again?" Kang Jingming was taken aback. He had not expected Wei Zhao to advance yet again—he was already an expert at the peak of the mid-Heaven rank!

"Enough of the nonsense. When are you giving me the pills?" Wei Zhao asked.

"This... how about next time? They're almost fully refined, but I didn't bring them with me. I had no idea I'd run into you here, so I wasn't prepared!" Kang Jingming said.
