Chapter 4901 — A Flood of Sympathy?

The Blossom Guardian

Could it be that the girl actually had some feelings for Chang Laiting? The others puzzled over this in silence. They found such affection for a piece of scum foolish, yet not entirely incomprehensible—after all, the two were dao companions.

"What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? I stepped on him—will he come after me for it later?" Ni Caiyue was once again spinning in frantic circles.

Wei Zhao and the others nearly keeled over in unison. So it was not affection at all—she was simply afraid Chang Laiting would take revenge!

Even in a situation like this, she was still fixated on the fact that she had stepped on Chang Laiting. Just how was this girl's mind wired?

"I say, girl, are you quite finished? Stop pacing back and forth, will you? You're making me dizzy," Wei Zhao said, his face speechless as he tried to stop her.

"Ah! What? You called me... that?!" Ni Caiyue finally halted and stared wide-eyed at Wei Zhao. "You're flirting with me!"

"..." Wei Zhao stared blankly at this girl with her fantastically bizarre thought process, at a loss for words. How was one supposed to communicate with someone like this? Was he supposed to hold out a lollipop and say, There's a good child, uncle isn't a bad man?

Wang Xinyan and Huang Xiaotao exchanged looks as well. Only Lu Xiaozhong was there stifling a wicked grin—had Wei Zhao not glared at him, the fellow would surely have already slapped his thigh and burst out laughing. Was this not just a silly girl?!

Wei Zhao thought for a long while and finally managed to squeeze out one speechless sentence: "Please—the road to becoming a magnate is very dangerous. You'd better hurry home."

"Mm-hm!" Ni Caiyue actually nodded in hearty agreement and explained, all on her own: "I was on my way home to begin with, but then I ran into Chang Laiting by accident on the road, and he chased me the whole way. It was terrifying!"

As she spoke, she absentmindedly patted her chest—and with a figure to rival Huo Yudie's, that patting was a temptation all its own. Watching the shape of her chest rise and fall, Wei Zhao could only awkwardly turn his head away.

Thank goodness the girl was dressed so thoroughly. Had her clothes been any thinner, any man witnessing this would surely have been driven into a beastly frenzy. Her nerves were just a little too thick.

"It's fine now—Chang Laiting definitely won't be able to catch me!" Ni Caiyue glanced thankfully at Chang Laiting, whose head was still stuck in the ground. The others were speechless again. This wretch surviving at all was a miracle. What was he going to chase her with?

"So you'd best be off. Once he wakes up, you won't be able to leave," Wei Zhao said, rubbing his forehead. He had half a mind to say that if she liked, she could finish Chang Laiting off with one more stroke and save herself future trouble—but one look at Ni Caiyue told him she would never dare do such a thing, so saying it would be wasted breath.

"Oh, oh, then I'd better hurry!" Ni Caiyue gave a start and, still shaken, hastily backed a few steps away. Then she suddenly stopped and turned back, her face utterly serious: "Young hero, even though you saved me, you're still not allowed to flirt with me!"

"..." The others exchanged looks once more, while Wang Xinyan and Huang Xiaotao couldn't help but smile at each other. Strange as her thought process was, one had to admit this Ni Caiyue was adorably naive and innocent.

"I wasn't flirting with you!" A black line crossed Wei Zhao's brow. Speechless, he choked for a good while before sighing. "Well then—goodbye."

"Mm, goodbye!" Ni Caiyue waved excitedly and turned to go, her steps light with delight.

Watching the girl's retreating figure, Wei Zhao and the others exchanged a smile. A playful curve lifted the corner of Wang Xinyan's mouth. "She's one of the Three Fairies, you know. Such a fine opportunity, and you don't even go make her acquaintance or keep her company. If other men heard, they'd say you're wasting heaven's gifts. This chance won't come twice."

"Right, right. Master Lin, you're squandering the opportunity!" Lu Xiaozhong chimed in at just the right moment.

"Then you go." Wei Zhao shot him an exasperated glare.

"I wouldn't dare. My old man won't let me touch women, and besides, I couldn't afford to. Lu Xiaozhong scratched his head sheepishly. Just look at Chang Laiting with his head stuck in the ground—if he couldn't even beat that thing, then a fairy like Ni Caiyue was something to dream about and nothing more. A toad can't feast on swan meat.

"Heh, at least you know your limits." Wei Zhao couldn't help but laugh. This Lu Xiaozhong was just like his father, Lu Dachang—most of the time he looked like a lump of shameless, rolling scoundrel, but in truth he had a keen eye for the way things stood. He was the sort who knew exactly when to bow to circumstances and never attempted what was beyond him; he only played the rogue when he was absolutely certain. One had to admit, that too was a most ingenious philosophy for getting by in the world.

"Heh heh, if I didn't even have that much judgment, your little Lu would have been beaten to death long ago," Lu Xiaozhong said with a smug grin.

Wei Zhao, Wang Xinyan, and Huang Xiaotao were speechless looking at one another. The fellow seemed to have completely forgotten that business back in Leidong City, when he'd fought someone over a Gestation Spirit Golden Pill—hadn't he nearly been beaten to death that time?

"Your little Lu doesn't have the qualifications, but you do, Master Lin. She's one of the Three Fairies of the Gaolin Sea Region, after all. And this Ni Caiyue, from the look of her, how should I put it..." Lu Xiaozhong tilted his head and thought for a long while, finally landing on the perfect adjective: "Very easy to fool!"

Aiya! Wei Zhao nearly kicked him in the face. Easy to fool? Did he look like some creepy uncle who went around swindling little girls?!

"If you want to fool someone, go do it yourself. I've no need. Besides, what's so special about the Three Fairies? There's one right here already." Wei Zhao curled his lip in exasperation.

"Oh, right! Miss Wang and Miss Huo are both Master Lin's fair confidantes!" Lu Xiaozhong smacked his head as it dawned on him—but then his eyes started darting about again. "Then that's all the more reason to go after that Ni Caiyue! Three fairies sharing one husband—wouldn't that be a fine tale?"

Wei Zhao and the others were utterly speechless. Lu Xiaozhong was not merely a comic treasure—he was an absolute buffoon!

"Come to think of it, that Ni Caiyue really is quite likable. Wei Zhao, if you're interested, we won't object," Wang Xinyan said, looking at Wei Zhao half in earnest, half in jest.

"I think so too. Having such a pure, lovely girl as a sister would be quite fun!" Huang Xiaotao chimed in, pointing at the barely-alive Chang Laiting on the ground. "Making her a dao companion to a wretched piece of scum like that—I can't bear to watch."

Hearing this, Wei Zhao gave them both an odd look and said helplessly, "Isn't this a flood of sympathy? You think you're adopting a stray animal?" (To be continued.)
