Chapter 4933 — Lightning Funeral!
But Wang Xinyan quietly held her back, shaking her head and murmuring, "Just watch. A fight of this caliber is beyond us."
"But..." Huang Xiaotao understood the logic well enough. Against a Kaishan-stage titan like Zang Zili, their meager strength would be worse than useless if they rashly intervened; it might even drag Wei Zhao down. Yet even so, how could they simply stand by and watch? Were they to let Wei Zhao fall into a hopeless trap before their very eyes?
"He never does anything he isn't sure of. Since he said what he said, it means he won't lose—at the very least, he won't come off badly. Let's just open our eyes wide and watch." Wang Xinyan smiled and shook her head.
She knew Wei Zhao too well. If he hadn't been confident, he would never have made a move on Zang Zili just now; he would have found a way, in the name of Morning Star Academy, to drag things out and resolve the trouble by every possible means of wrangling.
"Really?" Huang Xiaotao was still a little worried, but she no longer meant to act. Since Wang Xinyan trusted Wei Zhao so, she had no reason to doubt him either.
As the two women spoke, whether because Zang Zili was growing faster and faster or because Wei Zhao was slowing down, the situation grew more and more perilous with every breath. Several times Wei Zhao only just scraped past the white fireballs, drawing gasp after gasp from the crowd.
Everyone knew those white fireballs were no trifling matter. A single touch would mean more than injury—one might well be reduced to ashes entirely. Zang Zili was, after all, a Kaishan-stage titan who made her living by alchemical fire; this was no idle talk!
"What is that boy up to?" Others might not see it, but the Alliance Chairman's practiced eye told him plainly that Wei Zhao was not so passive as he appeared—it looked as though he were still brewing something.
"He must be running out of strength. He is, after all, only at the early Xuan-sheng stage. However strong he is, the true qi within his body is ultimately a shortcoming he cannot overcome," said the guard captain at the mid-Kaishan stage beside him, frowning.
The other Kaishan-stage titans around them nodded one after another. This day's battle had broadened their horizons; an early Xuan-sheng expert of such strength was all but unprecedented. Yet even so, not one among them was optimistic about Wei Zhao.
To be honest, Wei Zhao had already used so many powerful moves in succession and still had the strength left to dodge and evade—that alone was beyond their expectations. An ordinary early Xuan-sheng expert would have long since been drained dry and half dead from exhaustion, let alone kept circling with Zang Zili.
"Perhaps. But somehow I feel that boy is not so simple." The Alliance Chairman shook his head thoughtfully. His strength far surpassed everyone present, so naturally what he perceived was clearer than what the others saw—only even he could not imagine what reserves Wei Zhao might still have. This really did defy logic.
"You're about done for, aren't you, boy? Haha! I've only just finished warming up. Today I'll let you taste despair—I'll burn you to ashes bit by bit!" Zang Zili threw back her head and laughed, savage as a madwoman.
As she spoke, she finally caught a flaw in Wei Zhao. Two searing white streams of fire shot from her hands and clung to him in an instant, encircling Wei Zhao on every side and sealing off every path of retreat at once!
Wang Xinyan and Huang Xiaotao's expressions changed at the same moment. They trusted Wei Zhao, but this turn was truly too perilous—the two women were on the verge of acting almost in the same breath.
Yet at that very moment, Wei Zhao, trapped dead center by the white fire streams, smiled instead. Not a trace of panic in his tone, he remained as calm as ever: "What a coincidence. I've just finished warming up too—time to get serious."
"Still tough-talking with death staring you in the face—go die!" Zang Zili did not believe a word of such nonsense. Under her control the raging white fire streams pressed in on Wei Zhao from every direction at once, and in another instant they would drown him in a sea of white flame.
Wei Zhao did not even glance at them. Suddenly he raised both hands high and roared: "Lightning Funeral!"
"Lightning Funeral?!" Everyone in the arena, the Alliance Chairman included, started at the name. They exchanged bewildered looks. Lightning Funeral was a phenomenon unique to Thunder Plain Island—yet the sky overhead was clear and cloudless. Where was there the slightest sign that a Lightning Funeral was coming?
"Hahahaha! Playing the mystic, bragging through your teeth—a fellow like you could summon a Lightning Funeral? Your strength is nothing much, but your bluffs come one after another!" Zang Zili sneered at the words.
But before her laughter died away, the cloudless sky suddenly churned with wind and gathering clouds, and then a colossal pillar of lightning, vast enough to dwarf ten men, came crashing down. The earlier Thousandfold Thunderburst had been deep blue, but this pillar of lightning bore a faint trace of purple!
Zang Zili had not the slightest chance to react. She was struck full on the spot with a thunderous crash!
Both were lethal lightning techniques. If the earlier Thousandfold Thunderburst had merely startled everyone, this Lightning Funeral descending from the heavens utterly stunned all present. Even the Alliance Chairman and the assembled Kaishan-stage titans showed looks of shock and could not speak a word for a long while.
Before the heavenly might of that Lightning Funeral pillar, Zang Zili's white fire streams offered no resistance whatsoever. The mere aftershock of the downpour flattened them with ease—and sent Wei Zhao himself flying along with them!
"This is a Lightning Funeral?!" Once the Alliance Chairman grasped what had happened, his face turned ashen in an instant. He had been watching coldly from the sidelines all along, taking a secret satisfaction in seeing Zang Zili get the worst of it from Wei Zhao—the woman was truly infuriating, and if he had not needed a favor from her, would he, the exalted Alliance Chairman, ever have stooped so low?
But secret satisfaction was one thing; the Alliance Chairman could absolutely not allow Zang Zili to come to harm, least of all right under his nose. If Zang Zili truly fell, who would refine his pills for him?!
Like everyone else present, the Alliance Chairman had ultimately underestimated Wei Zhao. Even though Wei Zhao had seized the upper hand from the start and driven Zang Zili into a fluster, he had never believed Wei Zhao could do Zang Zili any real harm. However bedraggled she was along the way, Zang Zili would still have the last laugh.
Because absolute strength was plain for all to see. However formidable Wei Zhao's explosive power, he could not possibly kill a Kaishan-stage titan in a single blow—and so long as he could not kill Zang Zili outright, once the two of them sank into a stalemate, the inevitable end was that his stamina would give out and he would fall. On that point, no one had the slightest doubt.
