Xiao Wan started. "Save someone? Who?"
Mr. Ghost shook his head silently, as if with a bitter smile, and said, "We shall speak of it in the future."
With that, he turned sharply, as though he wished to linger no longer. His black figure, like a ghost or a phantom, shot forth in an instant and vanished in the blink of an eye into the shadows of the dense forest. Xiao Wan had no time to call out; she had barely opened her mouth when the black figure was gone. Somehow that man in black had given her a faint sense of closeness. Xiao Wan sighed, and clasped the string of Blood Jade Bone Shards tightly in her palm.
Beside her, Zhou Yixuan gave a humph and came forward. He took the Blood Jade Bone Shards from Xiao Wan's hand and examined them closely, turning them over one by one. Xiao Wan, puzzled, asked, "Grandpa, what is it?"
Zhou Yixuan sneered, "A fine master you have taken. Do you know what these things are made of?"
Xiao Wan started. "What are they?"
Zhou Yixuan said, "These ghostly things are refined from the skull fragments of persons of utmost yin, and who knows how many living souls were added in the making before they gained such efficacy."
Xiao Wan was stunned for a moment. She took them back and looked, yet could not see how they were human bone at all—they seemed more like jade or stone. She could not help casting Zhou Yixuan a glance and said, "Grandpa, is that really true? How does this look like human bone?"
Zhou Yixuan was instantly furious. "You take that ghost-like, inhuman fellow as your master, and now you do not believe me?"
Xiao Wan stuck out her tongue, tucked the Blood Jade Bone Shards into her robes, and said with a smile, "All right, Grandpa. In any case, in the future I shall only use these things for good, never for evil. Is that not enough?"
Zhou Yixuan gave a humph, turned, and walked off, still muttering, "As if I would believe that."
Xiao Wan chuckled, infinitely charming, and followed after him.
"
