Chapter 392 — Drinking Straight from the Bottle

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

An Liwen was not the least bit afraid. He still had his trump card, Su Taiwei, so what was there to fear? His only worry was that Wei Zhao might refuse to drink! So long as Wei Zhao was willing, there was no fear he would not drink himself to death!

"No wonder Brother Lin hardly drank last time — turns out he thought the wine wasn't strong enough!" The realization dawned on An Liwen. No wonder Wei Zhao had been displeased that time; the man had been secretly annoyed that he hadn't been allowed to drink his fill!

An Liwen had been puzzling over it all along: why had Wei Zhao given him a thrashing? He and Wei Zhao had no grudge, so why would Wei Zhao go after him? Wei Zhao was merely one of Gu Mengyao's bodyguards, not her boyfriend; Gu Pengzhan had hired him with money, and his only job was to keep Gu Mengyao safe. What business was it of his whether An Liwen courted Gu Mengyao or not?

And to say it was some grudge formed by accident in the past was even more impossible — if there had been bad blood before, would Wei Zhao have saved him at the amusement park? So An Liwen could not make sense of why Wei Zhao had set him up, and after turning it over and over, this was the only reason he could find!

Wei Zhao had come to the banquet as his savior, and An Liwen had failed to let him drink well and drink his fill, so of course the man harbored resentment and had vented it a little!

And the incident last time had clearly been largely a matter of chance! Wei Zhao had not known in advance that Li Cihua would be there, nor that An Liwen meant to call him a girl; everything had happened on the spur of the moment, with no design behind it. And the more that was so, the more it proved that Wei Zhao had not intended to go after him beforehand — the thrashing had been a whim!

Of course, An Liwen had greatly underestimated Wei Zhao. Setting someone up was nothing; Wei Zhao did not even need to prepare in advance to kill a man.

"Heh heh..." Wei Zhao gave a faint laugh, wearing a look that said, 'So long as you know.'

Seeing that look, An Liwen grew all the more certain that Wei Zhao truly had not drunk his fill last time.

"Ganglou, bring out the baijiu!" An Liwen ordered Yang Ganglou.

"Right away, Brother An!" Yang Ganglou hurried out of the private room and gave a few instructions to the waiter at the door. Everything had been arranged beforehand, so he did not need to waste words.

Yang Ganglou had hardly returned when the waiter came in carrying three bottles of Moutai, and dish after dish was brought to the table, plainly all prepared in advance. This only made Wei Zhao more certain that this An Liwen was no good article. When they had been drinking beer earlier, there had not been a single dish on the table. True, it had only been to quench thirst, but drinking on an empty stomach was the surest way to ruin one's health and the surest way to get drunk!

He reckoned these fellows had all eaten a little beforehand, but Wei Zhao had eaten nothing.

With a cold laugh, Wei Zhao thought: so these fellows were not merely aiming to get him drunk — they meant to drink him to death! In that case, he would drink them to death first.

"Only three bottles of Moutai? That won't go around, will it?" Wei Zhao said, glancing at the Moutai in the waiter's hands.

"Oh?" An Liwen was slightly taken aback. He had feared that bringing too much at once would frighten Wei Zhao — baijiu was not beer, after all. Plenty of people drank beer by the crate, but who ever drank baijiu by the crate? Still, since Wei Zhao had said so, An Liwen naturally indulged him: "Bring a case, then!"

The waiter nodded hurriedly and went out to fetch the baijiu.

When the baijiu was brought in, Yang Ganglou reached for a cup to pour, but Wei Zhao stopped him. Wei Zhao waved a hand and said, "Pouring it out is such a bother. Let's just drink straight from the bottle!"
