Chapter 769 — A Show for You

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"What's wrong?" Tang Zhi asked, a little puzzled, when Wei Zhao suddenly pulled the car over to the side of the road.

"Oh, nothing. Something seems off with the car. I'll get out and take a look." Naturally, Wei Zhao would not breathe a word about the bomb, lest he send everyone in the car into a panic.

Wei Zhao was in no hurry, of course, and he was not afraid the bomb would go off at once. Zhao Qibing and Li Cihua were no fools; they could not have set the timer too short. If it blew before Wei Zhao had even driven the car out of the parking garage, they would have been caught in the blast themselves.

"Couldn't you go buy yourself a decent car?" Gu Mengyao had never thought much of Wei Zhao's beat-up old wreck.

"Ha, I expect I'll have to go buy one soon enough. Or maybe I'll just drive yours and Xiaoshu's from now on?" Wei Zhao shrugged with a smile.

"Oh, that 5 — you can have it later." Gu Mengyao did not care about cars; she had no interest in that sort of thing, and she would not feel the least bit sorry to hand it over to Wei Zhao.

Wei Zhao did not answer. With Tang Zhi sitting right there, it really was not an easy question to answer.

Tang Zhi glanced at Gu Mengyao, pressed her lips together, and said nothing either. What Gu Mengyao could give Wei Zhao, she herself could not yet afford to give.

Still, over the course of the drive, Tang Zhi's mood had shifted a great deal. She had realized that if she held on to a heart full of gratitude, she would no longer feel that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were so hostile. Both of them could help Wei Zhao — so why should she stand in their way?

Besides, some things would happen whether she blocked them or not. The only thing she could do was work hard to become someone useful to Wei Zhao.

Wei Zhao got out and quickly spotted the timed bomb Zhao Qibing's men had planted on the undercarriage. It was a very old-fashioned mechanical timer — remarkably easy to disarm.

Still, here in China, in a place like Songshan City, to get hold of a bomb of this caliber was already quite something. The fancy electronic ones were not the sort you could simply buy anywhere. Given how rushed and improvised the whole thing had been, this was about as good as it got.

Wei Zhao checked the time remaining on the bomb. Seventeen minutes left — they must have set it for twenty. After looking it over, he did not touch the timer, nor did he have any intention of defusing it.

Wei Zhao simply stood up, got back in the car, and started the engine again.

"How is it?" Gu Mengyao asked.

"Ha, I'll take you all to see a good show in a bit." Wei Zhao drove slowly along the road.

"Ooh, a show? What kind of show? I want to see!" Shen Yushu perked up at the mention of a good show.

"Exactly the one you most want to see." Wei Zhao had noticed that Shen Yushu could practically pass for a prophetess — nearly every offhand thing she said ended up coming true.

"The one I most want to see?" Shen Yushu was taken aback, not quite understanding what Wei Zhao meant.

"Just wait and see." Wei Zhao smiled.

Gu Mengyao and Tang Zhi were rather puzzled. They had no idea what Wei Zhao was talking about and wanted to ask, but Shen Yushu had already asked earlier and Wei Zhao had not gone into detail, so they let the matter drop.

Wei Zhao drove the car to a spot with a clear view of Qibing Tower. It faced the tower from across a good distance — he was worried that if they got too close, the tower might actually come down and injure some of them.

Wei Zhao found a place with a good line of sight and parked the car.

"What are we stopping here for?" Gu Mengyao asked, puzzled.

"Arrowhead, when are we going to see the show?" Shen Yushu asked.

"This is the spot. Watch from here," Wei Zhao said. "Get out of the car here."

"Here?" Tang Zhi and Gu Mengyao both blinked in surprise. Only Shen Yushu, eager to try, hopped out of the car and looked around.
