In the blink of an eye, the movie ended, but Wei Zhao did not stop, because he was unwilling to forfeit such a rare and golden opportunity; if Wang Xinyan were to be startled awake, the effect would be greatly diminished.

"Knock, knock, knock..." From outside the folding door came the sound of knocking, followed by Bai Weituo's booming voice: "Brother Lin, the movie's over—aren't you coming out?"
Somewhat helplessly, Wei Zhao slid the folding door open, and Bai Weituo and Zhao Shengji promptly craned their necks inside with looks of pure curiosity...
"Yaaawn..." Wang Xinyan, cradled in Wei Zhao's arms, was woken too. She stretched, rubbing her eyes drowsily: "Is the movie over...?"
"There's hanky-panky afoot!" Bai Weituo looked at Wang Xinyan in Wei Zhao's arms, a sly grin spreading across his face: "Boss, this time you can't deny it even if you want to—you two were asleep in each other's arms..."
"Exactly. Who knows what strenuous activities you got up to before? Otherwise, how could you fall asleep watching a movie?" Zhao Shengji wore an equally knowing smile.
"Nothing of the sort." Wei Zhao smiled faintly and released Wang Xinyan. "The movie was too boring—we both dozed off..."
"Boring? It was great!" He Meiyue, however, eyed Wei Zhao and Wang Xinyan with a teasing glint: "Well, Xinyan? Are you going to deny it this time?"
"Deny what?" Wang Xinyan looked a little embarrassed.
"Deny your relationship with Wei Zhao, of course!" said He Meiyue.
"We... have always just been good friends..." Wang Xinyan said, her face flushed.
"Good friends who sleep in each other's arms?" He Meiyue countered.
"During military training, we often slept together—it's no big deal..." Wang Xinyan meant to explain, only to realize she had let something slip...
He Meiyue and Chai Xiaoling's eyes went wide, and Bai Weituo and Zhao Shengji wore looks of sudden enlightenment.
"So the hanky-panky's been going on for ages! That's not fair—you kept it hidden all this time!" said He Meiyue.
"All right, the movie's over. Best head back early." Wei Zhao did not take the bait; he merely said this lightly.
Bai Weituo, He Meiyue, and the others did not press the matter further. The group left the cinema and reached the parking lot, only then recalling that there were now two cars.
"Xinyan, you drive one, and Bai Weituo drives the other," Wei Zhao said.
"Okay..." Wang Xinyan nodded.
And so Wei Zhao, Zhao Shengji, and Bai Weituo rode in one car, while Wang Xinyan, Chai Xiaoling, and He Meiyue took the other, and the two cars set off together in the direction of the school.
"Boss, you're no fun—you kept denying it all along!" Bai Weituo said once they were in the car.
"Ha, never mind me—let's talk about you two. How are things? Any progress?" Wei Zhao asked.
"Me...? Don't even mention it. She won't even let me hold her hand..." Bai Weituo sighed. "Looks like I've still got a long way to go..."
"Heh, I've made a bit of progress, actually. Chai Xiaoling let me kiss her—though compared to you, Boss, it's nothing..." said Zhao Shengji.
"Wang Xinyan and I..." Wei Zhao wanted to say there really was nothing between them, but on second thought he said: "Never mind, let's not talk about that."
Wei Zhao got out at the school gate. He did not live in the dormitory, so he walked straight from the school gate back to the Xueshang residential compound; it was not far on foot.
When he got home, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were watching television in the living room, while Grandma Sun was tidying up the house.
"Mr. Lin, you're back. I'm about to do some laundry—shall I wash your jacket too?" Grandma Sun asked.
