Wei Zhao naturally took Yuning by the hand and led her out of the room, and the two of them rode the elevator down together.
Once outside the hotel, the cold wind struck Yuning and cleared her head considerably. "Wei Zhao, how did you get here so fast? Aren't you over in Songshan City?"
In Yuning's mind, things were still frozen at the time Wei Zhao had been in Songshan City. After he went to Donghai City, she had essentially lost all channels of contact with the outside world, so she had no idea he had gone there.
"I'm attending university in Donghai City now," Wei Zhao said. "As for how I got here, someone told me. I'll tell you, but you mustn't tell anyone else."
"Mm, mm." Yuning nodded hurriedly. If Wei Zhao wanted her to keep a secret, then of course she would never go around talking about it.
"It was Zhao Qibing's lackey. He's actually one of my men," Wei Zhao said.
"What? You've already planted one of your people inside the hidden Zhao family?" Yuning stared at Wei Zhao in astonishment.
"Heh, actually I've got one in the hidden You family too," Wei Zhao said with a smile. "But none of that matters. Let me take you back first."
"Mm, all right." Even as Yuning marveled at the reach of Wei Zhao's power, she could not help feeling that he had far too many enemies. If he was planting nails inside these families, did that not mean he was on hostile terms with all of them? So she could not help worrying. "Have you offended all of these families?"
"You can't say I've offended them. They're the ones who insist on opposing me. There's nothing I can do about it." Wei Zhao shrugged and led her to a quiet spot near the hotel.
Yuning was puzzled. What had Wei Zhao brought her here for? Just as she was about to ask, she saw him beckon, and a strange spirit beast came rushing over.
Having grown up among the hidden families, Yuning was naturally no stranger to spirit beasts—she even had one of her own, which she had kept by her side since childhood. But though that beast had always been healthy, over the past while it had inexplicably fallen ill, looking as though it had suffered a grave injury that would not heal. After all, no one in the hidden Yu family knew the first thing about raising spirit beasts, and when the Yu family's old ancestor saw the creature's condition, he said nothing at all, leaving Yuning utterly helpless.
"A spirit beast?" Yuning's own beast was far smaller than the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast, but that did not stop her from recognizing it as one.
"Mm. His name is Little Wind. He's very fast—that's how I was able to get here from Donghai City so quickly," Wei Zhao said.
"Ah, so you have a spirit beast!" Yuning was even more astonished. She had never imagined that when she met Wei Zhao again, he would have a spirit beast of his own. It was almost as if she no longer recognized him.
"Mm. This beast originally belonged to the Qianshan Sect. Back at the Hidden World Family Summit, they tried to use it to kill me, but in the end I took it for myself. Your grandfather was furious at the time." Wei Zhao smiled. "Back then, at the summit, they couldn't keep me there. Now they'll have even less luck."
"Wei Zhao, aren't you only at the peak of the mid Earth rank?" Yuning asked in surprise. "Back then... they just let you take this spirit beast away?"

"Mm!" Yuning wrapped her arms around Wei Zhao's waist and sat behind him on the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast, her forehead resting gently against his back, quietly savoring the happiness of that moment.
