"Heh, they say the master of this ancient warship was a top-notch gourmand, so every cook aboard was a celebrated master of Cloudstep Isle, and the ship gathers the finest dishes from every land. To eat a meal here is the dream of many a food lover!" Huo Yudie explained with a smile.
"Really? Then I can't let this chance slip by—I'm going to feast!" Ning Xuefei instantly transformed into a glutton; one plate of pastries was not nearly enough, and her eyes sparkled as she hunted for more delicacies.
The way she swept through the food like wind scattering clouds left Wei Zhao staring. He had never seen this side of her before. Thank goodness he was not short on spirit jade—otherwise he truly could not have afforded to keep this gluttonous princess.
"Yudie, this place is a formation, isn't it?" Wei Zhao cared little for the food; what roused his curiosity was the unusually abundant spiritual energy here. It flowed naturally, not at all like something merely piled up from vast quantities of spirit jade.
"Mm. My master says it is a most peculiar spirit-gathering formation that draws the spiritual energy of the sea together and turns it to our use," Huo Yudie nodded.
"It can gather the spiritual energy of the sea?" Wei Zhao was astonished. Such a technique was truly remarkable. But on second thought, if the ship could not replenish its energy from the sea at any time, then given the tonnage of this ancient warship, no amount of spirit jade would suffice to feed it.
As they spoke, Ning Xuefei had already swept a whole basket of delicacies back from her raids. The dining hall held a dozen or so elegant pavilions set aside for eating and drinking, and the three of them found one nearby and were about to dig in when they saw several familiar faces enter—none other than Ren Zhongyuan and his crew.
"Narrow world!" The moment Ren Zhongyuan saw Wei Zhao together with Huo Yudie, his eyes blazed again, and his head filled with thoughts of tossing Wei Zhao into the sea to feed the sea beasts.
But the place was crowded and eyes were everywhere. However bold he felt, he could hardly openly move against Wei Zhao, the Western Isle's consort. With a cold snort he went with Yi Xiaotian and the others to a table nearby and sat down.
Wei Zhao, of course, would not go out of his way to pick a fight with the likes of him. He went on enjoying the food and chatting and laughing with the two women as if no one else were there, his mood not soured in the least by their arrival.
The more unconcerned Wei Zhao appeared, the more Ren Zhongyuan seethed. He had quite lost his appetite by now, and shot a meaningful glance at Li Yuzhou and Sun Baolu, who flanked him. The two lackeys nodded in instant understanding.
"Boy, our Brother Ren is magnanimous and gives you one last chance. Either draw a clean line between yourself and Miss Huo and kowtow to our Brother Ren in apology—or you're finished. I guarantee you won't even know how you died. Heh heh!" Li Yuzhou and Sun Baolu strode up beside Wei Zhao and threatened him with cold smiles, looking down at him from on high.
Wei Zhao did not even take Ren Zhongyuan seriously, let alone petty henchmen like these. He could not be bothered with them, but since they had come looking for trouble, he was not about to indulge them either. Without so much as raising his head, he said coolly, "Get lost—or die."
"Ho! Quite the swagger, aren't you? You really think being some damned Western Isle consort means no one dares touch you? I'll tell you the truth—that little status of yours is worth a pile of shit here in the Eastern Continent!" Sun Baolu stamped his feet and ranted.
