Chapter 4895 — He May Not Be Able to Come

The Blossom Guardian · Page 2 of 2

"I'm from North Island. The name's Wei Zhao. Don't know if you've heard of it?" Wei Zhao said evenly.

"From North Island? What kind of shit is that!" Chang Laiting blinked, taken aback. Arrogant as that question of his had been, its other purpose had been to probe the other man's depths, lest he provoke someone without even knowing it—and yet he had never expected the fellow to be nothing but a creature from North Island!

A wretched, feeble place like North Island—what was there to fear in that? It did not even deserve a second question from him. He had been over-cautious indeed, to go asking after the background of such a petty underling...

Still, no wonder he had felt a twinge of dread a moment ago. The man was keeping company with Wang Xinyan, one of the Three Fairies—by any reckoning, that could not be simple, could it? Who would have guessed the answer would prove so laughable.

"What's wrong with North Island?" Wei Zhao showed not the least sign of offense; instead he watched the other man with keen interest.

"North Island? To bring up North Island in a place like the East Continent—anyone would say it cheapens a man. If I were you, I'd die before I told a soul where I came from. Too shameful—people would laugh you to scorn!" Chang Laiting roared with laughter and curled his lip in contempt. "Never mind a mere nobody from North Island—even if you were a disciple of Thunder East Academy, unless Wang Dianxing came in person to claim you from me, it would all be so much hot air!"

"Wang Dianxing?" Wei Zhao laughed at the name, exchanging a glance with Wang Xinyan and the others, whose expressions had turned peculiar. "Then that's a pity. I doubt he'll be able to come."

"Nonsense! What manner of man is Wang Dianxing, that he would stand up for a nameless brat from North Island like you?" Chang Laiting snorted in derision.

Wang Dianxing was the foremost of their Four Princes of the Nascent Soul stage, his strength and backing in no way inferior to Chang Laiting's own. If Wang Dianxing did put in an appearance, he would truly have to show him some courtesy. But Wang Dianxing was famously loftier than the clouds—warm only to those of their own tier, and utterly heedless of anyone else.

"Oh, I think you misunderstand me. I meant that I crippled him some time ago. It'll be a while before he's on his feet again, I expect—likely still at Nascent Soul Great Perfection even now. A remote, out-of-the-way place like this, he shouldn't dare come barging in." A hint of amusement played about Wei Zhao's face.

"Hahahaha! Well now, I didn't see that coming—you're a funny one after all!" As though he had heard the greatest joke in the world, Chang Laiting rocked with laughter, doubled over and nearly collapsing to the ground.

Just as Chang Laiting was about to laugh himself senseless, Wei Zhao caught something from the corner of his eye: the woman he had cornered was now creeping away in the distance, hunched low and cautious, plainly hoping to slip off and fish in these troubled waters.

The sight struck Wei Zhao as faintly amusing, but he made no move to interfere, pretending he had not seen. After all, in her shoes anyone would think of stealing away—that was only human nature.

Only, if you mean to flee, shouldn't you take the chance while Chang Laiting's attention is elsewhere and just leg it? Instead you go sneaking about like that—do you really think you can slip away without a sound, right under the nose of a Xuan Ascension cultivator like Chang Laiting, and vanish without a trace?
