Chapter 57 — The Attack

"Oh, Mengyan, hello there." Yang Ce's mother spoke warmly. "You're looking for Yang Ce, aren't you? I'll go call him for you."

"No need just yet." Chen Shutang blushed and hurried to explain. "The Little New Year is tomorrow, so I wanted to wish you an early happy holiday, Auntie."

This was the excuse and pretext Chen Shutang had prepared in advance—calling Yang Juehuan's mother to offer New Year's greetings was entirely proper and justified.

"Heh heh, such a thoughtful child. Well then, Auntie thanks you." Yang Ce's mother said happily. "Give my New Year's greetings to your parents as well."

"Yes, I will," Chen Shutang said. "Are you and Uncle Yang both doing well?"

"Very well, very well. Oh, Mengyan, you must come to Auntie's house for New Year's Eve dinner," Yang Ce's mother urged cheerfully.

"Ah, New Year's Eve?" Chen Shutang's face flushed at once. Spending the New Year at her mother-in-law's house was only natural, but given how things stood between her and Yan right now, was it not a little too soon? So she said hesitantly, "Would that be all right?"
