Chapter 103 — A Twists and Turns of Coincidence

After the special task force reviewed the matter, they concluded that Wang Pu's confession was essentially accurate, though the exact amount of the black money remained unclear. Wang Pu was a fox-like character: the ledgers recorded only purchase prices and batch numbers, never the sale prices. And the smuggled goods were a motley assortment, ranging from automobiles to electronic products, scattered and miscellaneous, so estimating the sale price of each batch was no easy task.
Still, the preliminary accounting put the figures roughly in the right range, since Wang Pu had never entered the smuggling of drugs and other contraband into the books at all. That sum of money had been secretly moved out by Wang Pu.
The focus of the task force's investigation, however, became whether Huang Shu had actually taken part in the smuggling. Xia Xue had not seen with her own eyes that Huang Shu was involved in the whole course of events; Yang Ce had seen it, but he was unwilling to say much about it. After all, Huang Shu was a mad dog, hard to deal with, and since Yang Ce had already let slip that it was he who had crippled Huang Shu's leg, if Huang Shu really were caught by the police, there was no guarantee he would not bring that matter up.
So Yang Ce simply chose to feign ignorance, waiting for the dust to settle before dealing with Huang Shu himself.
To be continued.
