Chapter 16 — Mastery Level

The Beast-Taming Craftsman Page 2 of 2

With silk proficiency like this, as long as its growth level kept pace, becoming a butterfly was all but a hundred-percent certainty.

When that time came, he could sell not only the silk but also the crystal dust scraped from the Wind Crystal Butterfly...

If the silk reached Perfect proficiency, or even higher, before the cocooning, the phenomena accompanying evolution would only be more wondrous.

Depending on how it was raised, a special evolution might even be possible.

Twelve days of nurturing in all, and the teaching sessions with the two pet beasts had tentatively confirmed for Shi Jin the teaching effects of the skill codex.

If a pet beast had not previously mastered a certain skill, then after the first teaching session was complete, the pet beast would master that skill at Beginner proficiency.

The second teaching session raised it from Beginner to Proficient.

The fourth teaching session raised it from Proficient to Mastered.

Shi Jin meant to press on in one go and see how many sessions it would take to raise Mastered silk proficiency to Perfect.

Before that, though, they had truly been cooped up at home too long. Shi Jin decided to go out and do some real combat training.

Eleven, who had mastered Hardening, reached Level Five in growth, and endured a grueling week of falling training, ought to have completed this round of training perfectly. Its combat strength was absolutely not to be underestimated.

Now came the time to test the results.

Shi Jin opened the birdcage, and the Green Silk Worm crawled in of its own accord, since it was far safer inside than out — at least there it need not worry about becoming bird food.

After resting all morning, Shi Jin roused the little Iron-Eating Beast from its training.

"Eleven, training's on hold this afternoon. Get a good rest at noon and eat plenty — after that, we're going to do some real combat!"

"Awoo?"

Eleven: ✪ω✪ Real combat?!

The young, weak little Iron-Eating Beast clutched its steel plate and knocked on it with a thunk, thunk, thunk, its blood instantly boiling with excitement.
