Sun Jingyan's parents had died early, and she had grown up with her grandfather. Merely because she was closer to him, the rest of the Sun family treated her as their number one enemy in the contest for the inheritance. This made Sun Jingyan miserable, and in the end she had no choice but to leave for another city and carve out a world of her own!
"President Zhang, is there something you need?" Having gotten the memory card, Sun Jingyan naturally no longer feared Zhang Tongtian. She answered the phone without her former nervousness, speaking in a leisurely tone.
"Miss Sun, have you forgotten? Today I am holding a small-scale press conference to expose to the reporters the inside story of certain companies in the trade that ignore business rules, disrupt industry order, and foster unhealthy practices!" Zhang Tongtian said. "Would Miss Sun be interested in gracing us with her presence?"
Zhang Tongtian sneered inwardly. Sun Jingyan, this is your last chance — don't be ungrateful. Otherwise, I'll air the video at the press conference and leave your company in utter disgrace!
"Oh? Since President Zhang has invited me, how could I not attend?" Sun Jingyan said faintly. "What time, and where?"
"Nine o'clock this morning, in my company's meeting room. I think Miss Sun had best come a little early to discuss the content of the press conference with me!" Zhang Tongtian hinted.
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I have a few things to take care of on my end, so I can't come early. It'll be a wonder if I even make it on time!" Sun Jingyan was puzzled. Zhang Tongtian hadn't noticed that the memory card was already gone? Why was he still acting so sure of victory? Could he have a backup?
Sun Jingyan had dared to have Wei Zhao risk stealing the memory card precisely because she knew Zhang Tongtian was a computer illiterate — he could not operate a computer or a camcorder to save his life. The recording had been made for him by a private investigator, and after watching it once, he had simply left it in the handbag he carried about with him.
Sun Jingyan had guessed right. To be on the safe side, Zhang Tongtian had taken a special look at the camcorder that morning, found the memory card still in place, and set his mind at ease. He could not work such a delicate contraption, so he never opened it to see what was on it.
Zhang Tongtian was a coarse man whose only talent lay in worming his way through personal connections. So although his company sold computers, he himself could not even have found the power button on one.
"Very well, I hope you won't regret this, Miss Sun!" Zhang Tongtian gave a cold snort and hung up, thinking: You bitch, don't say I didn't give you a chance — you'll be crying soon enough!
At nine o'clock, Sun Jingyan finally made a belated appearance in Zhang Tongtian's meeting room. Zhang Tongtian's face was dark, a ruthless glint flickering in his eyes. This woman certainly could keep her composure — though he wondered whether she would still keep it once she had watched the recording.
Zhang Tongtian had made up his mind: since Sun Jingyan was so blind to the favor he was doing her, so be it — he would simply have to let her taste the price of refusing him!
"Miss Sun, you're rather late." Zhang Tongtian gave Sun Jingyan a lukewarm nod.
"President Zhang, does it really matter whether I arrive early or late for your company's press conference?" Sun Jingyan said blandly.
"Very well then, Miss Sun, please take a seat." Zhang Tongtian gave a cold laugh and mounted the chairman's rostrum in the meeting room.
Most of these reporters had good relations with his company, and through their connections he had even invited the chief reporters of several major newspapers. One could well imagine how sensational this exposé would be!
