"What?" Divine Doctor Kang was dumbfounded by Kang Jingming's words. "Zhaoming, my boy, have you worked yourself silly? Are you talking nonsense?"
"Grandpa, you don't know yet, do you? I've helped the Xuan Dan Sect accomplish that great task. I'm now the Eighth Elder of the Xuan Dan Sect—one of the very few who stand at the pinnacle of its power!" Kang Jingming said.
"What? You've become an elder of the Xuan Dan Sect? Is that true?" Divine Doctor Kang could scarcely believe it. "And besides, without the strength to match, could you even sit in that seat?"
"Of course it's true!" Kang Jingming said. "Strength? Your grandson is now a Heaven-rank expert and a Yellow-rank Third-Grade pill refiner—among pill refiners, the very best. Even Old Master You of the hidden You family has to bow and scrape before me!"
"You... you're actually a Heaven-rank expert, and a Yellow-rank Third-Grade pill refiner?" Divine Doctor Kang nearly had a heart attack at Kang Jingming's words. How was it possible? How could Kang Jingming be so formidable?
"Naturally. Though I don't know what the Xuan Dan Sect wants with that bone-cleansing, marrow-purifying pill, they poured their entire fortune into me to cultivate my pill refinement for it. I dare say even the sect's young master never enjoyed such privilege. So how could I not be formidable?" Kang Jingming said smugly.
"Good heavens!" Divine Doctor Kang was utterly shaken, but after the shock passed, he believed Kang Jingming's words. Raising his head, he let out a great howl toward the sky: "Hahaha! Our Kang family is finally rising again!"
"That's right, Grandpa. Have no fear—with me around, the Kang family's glory is assured!" Kang Jingming said. "I'm a Heaven-rank expert, so my lifespan will be long—long enough to shelter the Kang family for a hundred years or more. You all just boldly and confidently expand the family's scale!"
"Good! In a little while I'll announce that you are to be the Kang family's next head!" Divine Doctor Kang said excitedly.
"Heh, Grandpa, best leave the position of family head to my elder brother. As an elder of the Xuan Dan Sect, it's impossible for me to return to the Kang family. But I will forever be the guardian deity of the Kang family!" Kang Jingming said with great self-importance.
Yet Divine Doctor Kang did not for a moment think Kang Jingming was boasting. He had the ability and the power. A family with a Heaven-rank expert could certainly become a hidden noble house—and when that Heaven-rank expert was also an elder of the Xuan Dan Sect, one of the greatest sects of the ancient world, it gave this hidden noble house ties at the ancient level!
The hidden You family also had ties to the Xuan Dan Sect, but by comparison theirs were far less close than Kang Jingming's—after all, Kang Jingming would surely favor his own family.
"I understand, Zhaoming. You are the pride of our Kang family!" Divine Doctor Kang let out a long breath. "I'll notify Kang Guifeng, Kang Cuipu, and Kang Jinglong right now and have them all come home to share this good news!"
"All right, Grandpa. From now on, whenever you need anything, just call me. I don't have a satellite phone set up yet, so you can call the Xuan Dan Sect directly and ask for Elder Kang or the Eighth Elder. In a few days, once I have a satellite phone, I'll give you the number directly!" Kang Jingming said.
