Chapter 166 — The Heroic Spirit Ruins

The Beast-Taming Craftsman Page 2 of 2

They were all the more curious about the Time Emperor's era—about every figure, great and small, who had left behind deeds of merit—and curious whether they themselves might win the recognition of these heroic spirits!

"All right, there will be specific notices later. This military training activity at the Heroic Spirit Ruin will be conducted jointly by the Archaeology Department and the Combat Department. Just be aware of it in advance and make your preparations."

"Next, class monitor, organize everyone to go collect the textbooks." Instructor Ding looked at the armor-clad man, Wang Ling.

"Once the textbooks are collected, you may all head back for today."

"Yes, sir!" Wang Ling nodded.

……

This class was strange, because the gender ratio was severely skewed: twenty-four boys and only nine girls.

Next, under Instructor Ding's lead, everyone went together to the neighboring room to move the books. What shocked Shi Jin was that for the archaeology major alone, the textbooks for just the first semester of freshman year totaled thirty-two volumes, and all of them were quite thick...

So much for the historical gap—this page count was going too far.

Still, although there were quite a few textbooks, everyone was a beast master, so carrying them was rather easy.

Even a girl could lift dozens of books with one hand—every one of them a superhuman, no delicate female classmate who couldn't even twist off a bottle cap here. Shi Jin could not help but marvel at how fierce and hardy the folk customs of Blue Star were.

While the textbooks were being distributed, the many students chattered and gathered together to discuss, flipping through the books handed out.

"Look at this one—it records the Time Emperor's three great generals and three great legions. Maybe when the time comes, we'll be able to summon some heroic spirit from it." Someone found a history book and laughed.

"Legendary Beast Master Fu seems to have won the recognition of the War Soul of one of those beast-mastering legions!"

At his reminder, everyone quickly opened that book.

The Time Emperor's three great generals were all title-legendary-tier beast masters, and the legions under them contained countless powerhouses. This book recorded no fewer than several hundred beast masters and pet beasts worthy of being called heroes.

From their origins to their pet beasts to their achievements, there were records of a sort for all of them.

"The three great generals?" Shi Cen flipped through it as well.

"General Bai Lin, General Tian Zhen, General Zhen Hai..."

Seeing this, Shi Zhuo smiled faintly.

"What are you laughing at?" Beside Shi Jin, Wang Ling—who had been secretly observing Shi Ying—looked at this monster who had kept such a low profile the whole time.

From what he knew, his childhood sweetheart and rival Yu Shu had been thoroughly infuriated by this Shi Jin. Shi Jin's strength was one thing, but Wang Ling very much wanted to probe into the other aspects as well.

"Nothing much. It's just that the history of that time apparently was not fully recorded and passed down." Shi Jin slowly set down the book.

"What do you mean???" Wang Ling was stunned.

Since the Time Emperor ushered in the beast-mastering era, the history lost was actually relatively little compared with the Mythic Era and the Totem Era. Still, it seemed it had not been recorded in full after all—though that was only natural. Even in the previous life, which had no extraordinary powers, the histories that survived were riddled with gaps, and whether they were true or false remained a major question.

"What I mean is, as everyone knows, the Four Heavenly Kings have five members, so the three great generals should have at least four as well." Shi Li.

Wang Ling: ???

Riddler, just die already!

"Are you going to tell us or not?" Wang Ling's mouth twitched.

Shi Zhuo smiled faintly. "It means exactly what it sounded like just now. What I mean is, under the Time Emperor's command, apart from these three great generals, there ought to have been another great general—only it seems she was never recorded."

The Great General of the Ice Dragon, Mu Huiyin!

For special reasons, the Heroic Spirit Ruins have never been fully explored, so it is unknown whether she is recorded within them.

Shi Qi gazed out the window, toward the direction of Icefield City, toward the direction of the Ice Dragon Snow Mountain.

That ice dragon must have mentioned it—its beast tamer, the Great General of the Ice Dragon, was also a great general under the Time Emperor's command; yet in this book, she is nowhere recorded.

She clearly sacrificed herself to help the Ancient Kingdom of Donghuang suppress a totem of an alien race, yet her deeds went unrecorded... Who knows how the Great General of the Ice Dragon, Mu Huiyin, and the Frost Dragon must feel about that.

"I want to have a word with the ice dragon and help the Great General of the Ice Dragon clear her name! Dragon whiskers or no dragon whiskers, dragon scales or no dragon scales, dragon eggs or no dragon eggs, none of that matters—what matters is restoring a piece of history!"

But more than that, Shi Jin wanted to know: if he entered that so-called Heroic Spirit Ruins, what kind of heroic spirit could he resonate with... Or rather, without that one-in-ten-thousand aptitude, would he be unable to summon anything at all?
