Chapter 141 — Old Buffon's Origins

But the most obvious change from going out and coming back was Sun Lin's attitude toward Yang Juehuan—from his initial coolness to remarkable warmth. Mother Sun was delighted, yet also somewhat puzzled. Still, this was what she had hoped to see, so she did not ask.
As for Ouyang Junyuan, after stumbling out of the Sun residence, he was still trembling with lingering fear. What kind of place was this? People from small towns were simply hopeless—no class at all. Ouyang Junyuan thought viciously. That fellow called Yang Juehuan was surely a country bumpkin who did not know who he was dealing with behind the scenes; that was the only reason he dared act so arrogantly. He would make him pay the price he deserved.
Enduring the pain in his hand, Ouyang Junyuan flagged down a taxi and returned to P Province overnight.
Ouyang Junwei was in his study going over the accounts of some of the organization's business when his steward knocked and hurried in. "Young Master."
"What is it, Uncle Qin? Haven't I told you not to disturb me when I'm going over the accounts?" Ouyang Junwei said with a frown.
"Young Master, something terrible has happened!" Steward Qin said anxiously. "I have an urgent matter."
"Then out with it." Ouyang Junwei closed the ledger before him and looked up. He knew that Steward Qin was ordinarily a stickler for rules and would not disturb him while he was working. If he had come now, something must have happened.
"Young Master, the Second Young Master has been slashed by someone!" Steward Qin said in a rush.
"What? Junyuan has been slashed?" Ouyang Junwei shot to his feet, then said urgently, "Where is he? Take me to him at once!"
"He's right downstairs. The doctor is bandaging him now," Steward Qin said.
"Oh. Let's go." Ouyang Junwei breathed a sigh of relief. If he was being bandaged at home, the injury could not be serious.
When he reached the living room downstairs, Ouyang Junwei saw Ouyang Junyuan sitting on the sofa, grimacing as he was bandaged, and said, "Junyuan, what happened?"
"Brother!" The moment Ouyang Junyuan saw his elder brother come down, he immediately poured out his grievance. "Brother, you have to get revenge for me! My finger—my thumb—someone chopped it off!"
"Oh?" Ouyang Junwei was stunned for a moment, then his expression turned dark. "What exactly happened? Who did it? Can the finger be reattached?"
"I didn't bring the severed finger back. There's no way it can be reattached now," Ouyang Junyuan said with a miserable look.
"Who the hell is vicious enough to dare lay a hand on you?" Ouyang Junwei flew into a rage at this. If that was the case, his brother's hand was ruined—and the right hand, at that. How could he not be furious?
True, there had been some unpleasantness between him and his brother back when they were vying for power, but years of brotherhood were not fake. Moreover, once Ouyang Junyuan had voluntarily given up contesting the position of family head, the relationship between the two brothers had grown even closer than before.
And Ouyang Junwei was unmarried, which made his affection for his younger brother all the more doting. Now, seeing his brother's hand ruined, his eyes immediately reddened.
"It was the Sun family—the Sun family of Donghai!" Ouyang Junyuan, naturally, would not admit that he had gone there to snatch someone's daughter to bring her back and have his way with her. He merely said, "Wang Cheng'en and I went to Donghai on business, and I saw a girl with fine potential. I told Wang Cheng'en to ask whether she had any interest in developing a career in entertainment. It turned out the girl was the daughter of Sun Lin, the boss of Donghai. Fine—if you don't agree, you don't agree—but then some punk popped up claiming to be Sun Jie's boyfriend. He not only beat Wang Cheng'en half to death, he chopped off my finger!"
"What?" Ouyang Junwei slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet. "They don't take our Ouyang family seriously at all! Did you tell him you were the second young master of the Ouyang family?"
"I did, of course I did. But they said the Ouyang family—in his eyes—wasn't worth a fart," Ouyang Junyuan said.
"Junyuan, rest easy. This vengeance—your elder brother will surely take it for you," Ouyang Junwei said with a cold laugh. "The man who cut you, I'll slice him into a thousand pieces. And as for that woman you mentioned, I'll have her seized and brought here for you to screw to death."
"Then thank you, brother!" Ouyang Junyuan said, delighted at once.
"You focus on recovering for now. Your elder brother will take care of everything. Don't worry," Ouyang Junwei said.
Back in the study, Ouyang Junwei made several phone calls, ordering his men to begin investigating Sun Lin, as well as his daughter and son-in-law.
He had barely finished giving the orders when a call came in from his father, Ouyang Kanqi.
"Xiaowei, what's going on? Steward Qin phoned me, saying Xiaoyuan has been injured," Ouyang Kanqi said.
"Yes, Father. The Sun family of Donghai did it," Ouyang Junwei said without any surprise. Steward Qin was his father's man, utterly loyal to him; every move he made here would be reported to his father.
Although his father was far away in Russia, he could still frequently direct him in handling gang affairs from afar.
"What do you intend to do? I hear you mean to go seek revenge?" Ouyang Kanqi asked.
"Yes, Father. Our younger brother had his right thumb sliced off by someone. This vengeance must be taken," Ouyang Junwei said. "They truly don't take our Ouyang family seriously at all."
"Oh? Then tell me, how do you plan to take this revenge?" Ouyang Kanqi continued.
"Of course I'll take men and storm straight into Donghai. We can't lose the prestige of our Ouyang family," Ouyang Junwei said with dash.
"Fool!" Ouyang Kanqi said sharply. "Revenge must certainly be taken, but leading men to storm into Donghai—what is that if not foolish?"
"What do you mean?" Ouyang Junwei was somewhat at a loss after his father's rebuke.
"How many men can we bring? Donghai is their territory—when all is said and done, they hold the advantage," Ouyang Kanqi said. "If you really lead men over there and the fight drags on without resolution, you'll likely be stuck in a deadlock, unable to advance or retreat. And then what will you do?"
To be continued.
660. Experiencing It Once More
"That—" Hearing his father's analysis, Ouyang Junwei broke out in a cold sweat at once. It was true—not a word his father said was wrong. If he really did that, the consequences would be unthinkable. Still, he was unwilling to let it go. "Then this matter with our younger brother—just let it go?"
"Let it go? Of course it can't be let go," Ouyang Kanqi said. "As for the Sun family, send someone to make contact and try to negotiate peace with them. Of course, wrangle some concessions out of it. As for the killer who injured Xiaoyuan—leave that to me. You needn't concern yourself."
"I understand, Father," Ouyang Junwei said with a nod. "Then I'll leave Xiaoyuan's matter in your hands."
"You little brat—Xiaoyuan is your brother, and he's my son too," Ouyang Kanqi scolded with a laugh. "Still, the bond between you two brothers now truly gratifies me. Rest easy—can't you trust your old dad? That fellow who hurt Xiaoyuan, I'll make him pay tenfold."
"Heh heh, of course. I almost forgot—Father, you're the leader of the Hawk Eye Group," Ouyang Junwei said with a cold smile.
Little did they know, the plan the Ouyang father and son thought so flawless was sending them down the road to the Yellow Springs. The assassin organization that had never been famous would likewise be declaring its own destruction.
After dinner, Sun's mother said, "Little Yang, stay here tonight. Steward Sun, go prepare a guest room."
"Prepare a guest room for what? He can just share a room with Xiaojie," Sun Lin said with a wave of his hand.
