Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 356 of 501

When the faint sound of fire engines drifted from the distance, Wei Dekang's heart gave a sharp jolt. Standing by the windowsill, he gazed out over the city, but beyond the glittering night lights, he could find no place that was on fire.

Perhaps it was too far away to see. Wei Dekang shook his head. Indeed, it was more than ten kilometers from here to the commercial street—it was only natural he couldn't see it. He hoped Zheng Laoliu would succeed.

Because if Zheng Laoliu failed, there was only one possibility—he had been caught on the spot. Zheng Laoliu was the stubborn sort; as a rule, he would not rest until he achieved his aim.

In the dark of night, a grayish-white Jinbei van sped along the road, its windows plastered all around with black reflective film, so that no one could see inside.

Looking at Zheng Laoliu in the back seat, Bao Lin revealed a cruel smile. The bastard had actually dared to make trouble for Brother Yang—burned Brother Yang's company, nearly dragged Brother Yang's girlfriend into it too. A hundred and eighty deaths would be too good for him.

Bao Lin glanced sidelong at Yang Ce, whose face was placid and utterly without expression. He did not know how Yang Ce intended to deal with the man in the car, but of one thing he was certain: the man was dead for sure.

The car arrived at the foot of Dekang Tower. Yang Ce looked up at the building—only one office had its light on. Using his ability to look, it should be Wei Dekang's chairman's office, which meant the person inside was Wei Dekang, without a doubt.

A man in his forties, unremarkable in appearance, with a faint trace of Wei Jin in his features. At this moment he was pacing anxiously back and forth in his office.

Yang Ce and Bao Lin got out of the car. Bao Lin was still dragging a man behind him—the unconscious Zheng Laoliu.

What surprised Yang Ce was that the ground floor of Dekang Tower was locked, not even a security guard on duty. He felt a little puzzled. What the hell was Wei Dekang up to? Such a huge building, and there was no one in it but him.

Actually, Yang Ce's puzzlement was understandable. Normally, there really was a security guard on duty at Dekang Tower at night, but tonight, because Wei Dekang was waiting for word from Zheng Laoliu, and his conscience was uneasy, he had sent everyone in the company home. That way, even if Zheng Laoliu came, it would be convenient for him to do the deed himself without anyone seeing.

This guy isn't playing some kind of "empty city stratagem" with me, is he? As Yang Ce thought this, he began using his ability to probe the situation inside the building. Unfortunately, apart from Wei Dekang alone, there really was no one else.

But that didn't matter. No one was even better. Yang Ce gave a cold chuckle, then took out the Lily Key and opened the door at the bottom of the tower. In just a few seconds, the building's door was open.

Bao Lin was filled with admiration. He thought to himself, Brother Yang is truly badass. If it were me, I'd have had to force the door open.

The two of them slipped quickly into Dekang Tower. Originally, Yang Ce had intended to destroy the surveillance footage inside the building once he got in, but for some unknown reason, he was surprised to find that all the surveillance in the building had never been activated. He felt rather baffled.

To make things convenient for himself, Wei Dekang had shut down all the surveillance cameras. Otherwise, if his murderous deed had actually been recorded, that would have been a real problem.

So while he made things convenient for himself, he made them even more convenient for Yang Ce—something Wei Dekang had never imagined. But actually, it didn't matter, because to Yang Ce those cameras were practically nonexistent. Even if they hadn't been shut down, Yang Shuoxuan could have destroyed them all completely.

"You wait here for me. I'll go up and bring that old bastard Wei Dekang down." Once inside the company, Yang Ce found a concealed spot and instructed Bao Lin to put Wei Dekang down there.

"Got it, Brother Yang." Bao Lin nodded without saying much more. He knew that Yang Juehuan's skills were more than enough to deal with a single Wei Dekang—it was even a bit of overkill—so there was no need for him to lift a finger.

Yang Ce went upstairs and arrived at the floor where Wei Dekang's office was located. He walked to the door of the only office with a light on. Yang Juehuan's expression turned cold and stern as he reached out and knocked on the door.

Wei Dekang was anxiously wondering whether Zheng Laoliu had finished the job. When he heard the knock, he instinctively assumed it was Zheng Laoliu back, and said with delight, "Come in. Laoliu, is that you?"

Yang Ce pushed the door open with a click, and Wei Dekang immediately sensed something was wrong. It wasn't that he had made out Yang Juehuan's appearance—rather, it suddenly struck Wei Dekang that the main door downstairs should have been locked. Zheng Laoliu had no key, so it was impossible for him to get in.

Then, in that case, who had come in? Wei Dekang was instantly alarmed. He looked up and saw a tall young man with a slightly dark complexion, sharply defined features, and not a trace of a smile, pushing the door open and walking into his office.

And this person—he knew him. It was Yang Ce, whom he had seen in the files before. There was a photo of Yang Juehuan in the files, and although the photo differed somewhat from the real person, Wei Dekang recognized him at a glance.

"You—you're Yang Ce?" Although Wei Dekang had already confirmed the identity of the newcomer in his heart, he still couldn't help asking instinctively.

"That's right, it's me." Yang Yu nodded. "Your eyesight isn't bad."

"How—how did you get in?" Seeing Yang Ce admit it, Wei Dekang was secretly alarmed. This guy couldn't possibly have gotten in—he had locked the building's door downstairs himself.

"I walked in, of course. I'd have liked to fly in, but I don't have wings." Yang Yongjin answered blandly. This cold tone made Wei Dekang very uncomfortable.

"You're looking for me?" Wei Dekang regained his composure. He didn't think Yang Ce could possibly have learned so quickly what he had sent Zheng Laoliu to do, so his expression became natural again, shifting into that condescending look of his.

"Of course. That's nonsense—I'm standing in your office. If I weren't looking for you, would I be looking for your wife or your mother?" Yang Xu mocked with contempt. "Unfortunately, I have no interest in either of them."

"You son of a bitch!" Even if Wei Dekang had the best of manners, being cursed at through his wife and mother, it was impossible for him to pretend nothing had happened—and Wei Dekang was a hot-tempered man to begin with. So he flew into a rage at once: "Fine, Yang Ce, let me tell you, don't push a man too far. I know your background, but I, Wei Dekang, am not someone to be trifled with either. Push me too far and we'll go down together—mutual destruction!"

"Going down together—mutual destruction. Sounds pretty fierce," Yang Ce shook his head. "Unfortunately, you won't get the chance."

"What do you mean?" As Wei Dekang spoke, his hand began to creep toward his pocket. He didn't dare be careless with a madman like Yang Heng—someone who would beat Wei Jin up in front of so many people. Wei Dekang was quite certain that Yang Shuoxuan would dare to beat him up right here.

But Wei Dekang was scheming viciously: if you dare lay a hand on me, I'll stab you to death with one thrust, and then I'll say you broke in to rob me—at worst I'll be charged with manslaughter.

Wei Dekang's clever little scheme had long since been seen through completely by Yang Ce, who sneered coldly, "You're going for a knife?"
