Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 499 of 501

If he described what those men looked like, that would be an indirect admission that he possessed X-ray vision. But learning the location of the stolen money was different; there were many ways to come by that—even a sixth sense or astrological divination could be possible. After the crime, Songjiang was peaceful for a night, with no similar vicious incidents occurring again, and those robbers seemed to have evaporated from the world and vanished. But only Yang Ce knew that these three were probably long gone from Songjiang's borders, and it was even hard to say whether they were still in the country.

Early the next morning, afraid that Tian Dongguang would keep pestering him, Yang Ce did not wait for Tian Yan and hurried to the classroom. To his surprise, Zhou Yanning had arrived even earlier and, as usual, had already saved him a seat.

In the past, Yang Ce had been somewhat reluctant to sit beside Zhou Yanning, but now Yang Jiyan felt it was as normal as could be.

"How did you sleep last night?" Yang Ce asked after sitting down. "Are you getting used to the dormitory?"

"How could I not be used to it? I used to live there every day." Being asked by Yang Puqi, Zhou Yanning was immediately reminded of those days when she had lived at Yang Ce's home, and she felt a little embarrassed.

"Heh, true. But in a few days, once the school's inspections ease up, let's go back home to live," Yang Hengye said.

"We'll talk about it when the time comes," Zhou Yanning said, her face reddening. After all, the relationship between her and Yan was not as casual as that between Yang Ce and Chen Shutang; whenever these matters came up, she would flush crimson.

"How are things with Wang Xue?" Yang Ce asked, seizing the moment while Wang Xue got up to go to the restroom.

"Not bad, I suppose. I'm fine, but Wang Xue always seems to feel a bit guilty toward me," Zhou Yanning said with a sigh. "I imagine it will take some time before things fully return to the way they were before."

Yang Yuting nodded. Wang Xue's guilt toward Zhou Yanning was certain, but that also showed that there was still a conscience in Wang Xue's heart. If Wang Xue felt not the slightest bit of guilt, then that person would be beyond saving.

The two were whispering when they saw Wang Xue return, and they quickly dropped their previous topic. But Wang Xue had come in together with Tian Yan and Tian Dongguang.

Tian Yan coming to Yang Juehuan's class every day was normal enough—after all, he was dating Wang Xue, so there was nothing odd about coming to keep her company. But Tian Dongguang's arrival could not help but make Yang Mo a little nervous. This kid was truly capable of endless nagging, but out of consideration for Tian Yan and his father Tian Long, Yang Shuoxuan could not do anything about him.

The key was that this fellow was like a piece of chewing gum: even after being rejected, he remained indomitable. That was what really gave Yang Ce a headache.

Fortunately, each row in the classroom could only seat four people. Yang Ce, Zhou Yanning, and Wang Xue took up three seats. Tian Yan could not possibly let Tian Dongguang sit beside Wang Xue, and even if he did let him sit there, there would still be two people between him and Yan, so it would not be very convenient to talk.

Tian Dongguang did not linger either; he went straight over to Sun Zhiwei and sat down with him.

Yang Minlan found it a little strange that Tian Dongguang had gotten together with Sun Zhiwei, but he did not ask much. After all, the Sun and Tian families had always been on good terms.

"Dongguang, your brother and Yan are so close. Could you help me sound out something?" Sun Zhiwei asked tentatively after class began.

"Sound out something? What thing?" Tian Dongguang was a little puzzled.

"Help me find out how many girlfriends Yang Mo has," Sun Zhiwei said.

"Asking how many girlfriends he has—what do you want with that? Got nothing better to do?" Tian Dongguang asked, baffled. He could not fathom why Sun Zhiwei would want to know such a thing.

"I've got my reasons, naturally. Well? Are you going to help me or not?" Sun Zhiwei asked.

"Hold on. If you want my help, you'd better explain to me exactly why you need me to find this out." Tian Dongguang was not insane; unless Sun Zhiwei came clean, he would never do anything so pointless.

"Fine, then I'll be straight with you." Sun Zhiwei rolled his eyes and said, "My sister—you know her, right? She's taken a liking to Yang Ce and wants me to quietly sound things out, to see just how many women Yang Ce really has on the side."

"Your sister? Sun Jie?" Tian Dongguang was momentarily stunned. Sun Jie liking Yang Ce—there were several years between them, so how could that be? But then it struck him: the first time he had met Yang Ce, Yang Ce had been driving Sun Jie's Audi R8. Sun Jie never let any man touch her car—Tian Dongguang knew that perfectly well; otherwise he would never have mistaken Yang Ce for Sun Zhiwei. At that thought, Tian Dongguang began to half believe Sun Zhiwei's words. At the very least, the relationship between Yang Ce and Sun Jie was surely not simple.

"Yes, my sister. You know how things stand in my family—how could my uncle ever allow his future son-in-law to have other women on the side?" Sun Zhiwei said in a low voice. "So my sister wants me to investigate in advance."

"I see." That was what Tian Dongguang said aloud, but inwardly he curled his lip and thought: And what's so wrong with Brother Yang? Brother Yang is worth ten of you. If my old man hadn't strictly ordered me to stay in your good graces, I couldn't be bothered to be your friend.

1070. A Fishy Order

1070. A Fishy Order Still, as Tian Dongguang got to know Sun Zhiwei better, he discovered that although Sun Zhiwei was exceedingly arrogant, he was also exceedingly childish, with no real malice in him. Everything he did was the sort of thing only a child would do—put in the fashionable phrase, kindergarten level.

"Well? Can you help me or not?" Sun Zhiwei asked.

"I can't say for sure. I can only say I'll try," Tian Dongguang said. "A thing like this—it's not exactly easy for me to ask around about it."

"That's true enough." Sun Zhiwei did not press him. "Just keep your eyes open. Whatever you can pick up from your own observations, so much the better."

"All right, I'll play it by ear," Tian Dongguang said. That was what he said aloud, but he was determined to tell Yang Ce about this rather fishy business. How could he let slip such a fine chance to curry favor? He had been worrying about how to get closer to Yang Ce in the first place.

Although the Tian family were retainers of the Sun family, Tian Dongguang had also seen clearly enough: if Sun Jie really was involved with Yang Ce, then in the future the one calling the shots in the Sun family would still be Yang Ce, not Sun Zhiwei. So flattering Yang Ce was the right way to go.

Sun Zhiwei barely listened in class the whole period, fiddling with his phone the entire time. He had naturally set it to camera mode and pointed it in Yang Ce's direction, so that whenever Yang Ce and Zhou Yanning bent their heads to talk, Sun Zhiwei snapped a picture.

Who cared whether there was anything between them or not? Take a few intimate-looking photos first and sort the rest out later.

These past few days, apart from flirting a little with Zhou Yanning in class during the day, Yang Ce had been dogged relentlessly by Tian Dongguang the rest of the time. Yang Ce had no choice but to agree that he would give him some pointers when he had the time, though the matter of taking him as a master-disciple was out of the question.

Even so, Tian Dongguang was already quite satisfied. Everything had to proceed step by step—for now it was a few pointers; once there were enough pointers, he would naturally become the master.
